What strikes you first is the squalid nature of the women’s stories. Their husbands have beaten and abused them, they claim; lied and cheated, cavorted with prostitutes, become addicted to drugs.

One weeping wife even accuses her spouse of molesting her infant child.

Wearing colourful headscarves and robes, and often clutching handbags stuffed with banknotes to pay the £300 fee for their cases to be decided, this procession of downtrodden women have come before a panel of three judges to plead for their miserable marriages to be dissolved.

Four of the eight petitioners were born overseas — in Ghana, Ethiopia and Pakistan — and two speak such poor English that they find it easier to describe their marital woes in Urdu on this rainy Sunday afternoon in the heart of Birmingham.

We are not in a divorce court. At least, not one with any standing in the civil law of England and Wales.

Convened in a windowless chamber in the city’s huge Central Mosque, decorated with pictures of the holy cities of Mecca and Medina and a rather magnificent Moroccan tea urn, this is one of Britain’s secretive sharia law courts. 

After much negotiation, I have been granted a rare glimpse into its arcane, controversial workings.

Such is the protective veil surrounding these religious tribunals (or councils, as Islamic jurists prefer to call them) that, as a recent Home Office review conceded, not even the Government knows how many operate in this country.

One study, by Reading University, put the number at around 30; the think-tank Civitas estimates there could be 85.

What we do know is that sharia courts are proliferating across Britain and are held in many towns and cities with sizeable Muslim communities.

As the Government review states, critics regard them as anathema to British values because they ‘keep many Muslims isolated, entrenched and with little social stake in wider British citizenship and life’.

As I have discovered, these fears are not without justification. Indeed, so many of the country’s 2.8 million Muslims are using sharia courts that they are convened in all manner of places, from mosques to converted houses and shops.

So exactly what is sharia law and how is it dispensed? Among many non-Muslims, any mention of sharia instils fear and repulsion.

An impression has been shaped by stories from countries in the Middle East, South-East Asia and parts of Africa, where it is meted out in its most draconian form, with women flogged or stoned to death for committing adultery on the scantest of evidence, and petty thieves having their hands amputated.

But should we be SURPRISED?

A new book reveals how for years-despite warnings-politicians have been happy to let Islamic FUNDAMENTALISM

thrive here.

It has amounted, the author says:

TO AN ACT OF CULTURAL SUICIDE.

THE London suicide bombings last year caught MI5 with its trousers down.

Last week’s report by the Commons Intelligence Select Committee, revealed astonishingly incompetence by MI5, which had never understood the nature and extent of Muslim radicalisation and had let two of the bombers slip through its fingers.

The London bombings lifted the veil on Britain’s dirty secret in the war on terrorism - the fact that, for more than a decade, London had been the epicentre of Islamic militancy in Europe.

Under successive governments, Britain’s capital had turned into

‘LONDONISTAN’

-       a mocking play on Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda had been trained. Incredibly, London had become the economic and spiritual European hub of a production and distribution network for Islamist extremism and terrorism - all being carried out right under the nose of

MI5

During the 1980’s and 1990’s Islamic radicals flocked to London. A combination of Britain’s reverence for

FREEDOM of SPEECH

And its loss of CONTROL of

IMMIGRATION

-meant that such extremists and terrorists found LONDON to be the MOST HOSPITABLE in the WORLD.

As a result, London fostered the growth of myriad radical Islamist publications and preachers spitting hatred of the West.

Its BANKS were used for fund-raising accounts funnelling money into extremist and terrorist organisations, and it provided the launching pad for many of Osama Bin Laden’s fatwas.

Indeed, some authorities believe it was in London that Al Qaeda was forged into a

GLOBAL TERROR MOVEMENT.

Terrorists wanted in other countries were given safe haven in the UK. Extremist groups such as Hizb ut-Tahir remained legal, despite being banned in many European and Muslim countries.

Radicals such as Abu Qatada, Abu Hamza and others were allowed to preach incitement to violence, raise money and recruit members for the JIHAD.

An astonishing procession of UK-based terrorists turned out to have been responsible for attacks upon

AMERICA

ISRAEL

- and many other countries.

YET, the bizarre fact is that the

BRITISH AUTHORITIES

-       allowed all this extremist activity to continue with impunity for more than a decade - even after the ostensible

‘WAKE-UP CALL’

of

9/11

So how could it have happened?

The TRUTH is that EVEN NOW the

BRITISH ESTABLISHMENT

-is in a state of denial about the nature of the threat to the

FREE WORLD

-       posed by Islamist extremism and paralysed in its attempt to combat it.

Nowhere, is this more alarming than within the nexus of:

POLITICIANS

CIVIL SERVANTS

INTELLIGENCE SERVICES

And the

POLICE

-which is responsible for guarding Britain against the THREAT.

After the London bombings last year, ministers were appalled by

HOW LITTLE

the

SECURITY SERVICE

-       Knew?

Yet MI5 had known since at least the late 1990s that some British Muslims were becoming radicalised and recruited for the jihad, or holy war - and with British targets included in their sights.

In December 1998, eight young British Muslims were arrested and eventually convicted in the Yemeni capital Aden, of plotting terrorist attacks in that country and abducting tourists.

Subsequently security officials confessed they had no idea the youths had been recruited from mosques around England and were being trained at special terrorist camps sponsored by Osama Bib Laden.

‘It was a complete shock to us and it was a shock that chilled us to the bone,’ one source said.

Over the years, the governments of

India,

Saudi Arabia,

Turkey,

Israel,

Peru,

Russia

Among OTHERS, lodged formal or informal protests about the presence in Britain of terrorist organisations or their sympathisers.

Many countries asked Britain to extricate radicals back to the nations they were threatening but were turned down, often by the COURTS.

So why has Britain been so reluctant to act against Islamist terrorists in their midst?

The reasons - as always when questions are asked about the behaviour of the

SECRET STATE-

-are inevitably murky.

But through the self-serving excuses and obfuscations that such an inquiry tends to throw up, a picture emerges that raises some urgent questions about Britain’s ability even now to defend itself and the rest of the

FREE WORLD

- against Islamist terror.

The first reason is that, during the 1990s, both the British and Americans failed to grasp the threat to the West that was developing in the Islamist world.

James Woolsey, who between 1993 and 1995 ran the American,

CIA -Central Intelligence Agency

-says that both American and British intelligence made the same mistake.

With the death of Communism, Western Intelligence agencies laid off the analysts who could recognise the particular kind of threat posed by destructive ideologies.

So they never understood that, with the resurgence of a particularly extreme version of Islam, a set of ideas had gripped minds so deeply that believers would march against the

FREE WORLD

-under its banner.

Instead, the agencies tended to discount what such people were saying because it all sounded so crazy.

Britain, moreover, believed that it had no involvement in the Middle East that might present a problem. So after the Cold War,

MI5

decided to focus its attention to Northern Ireland, the drugs trade and economic espionage.

That was what the Government asked it to do.

The Intelligence world did not deliver the goods on what was going on in the Middle East because its customers in the political world did not ask it to do so.

[Over the past four decades in Europe and in Britain the politicians with few exceptions had and still have ONLY the growing ambition of a

United States of Europe

in mind.

The Intelligence Services of Germany and France have been and are still operating in concert for as long as the EU has been in being and has been suspected of undermining England and its influence at home and abroad. The German tactics of undermining the English world-wide have not changed since the Boer war.

But there were people in Britain who did try to alert the rest of the establishment to what was happening.

Lord Salisbury, a former Tory defence minister says during the 1980s and 1990s he tried to warn the governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major

‘It was like APPEASEMENT before World War II,’ he said.

it was not so long ago a Minister of the Crown would have lost his head.

An intelligence source said that during the 1990s, opinion within British intelligence was divided.

‘There was a lot of talk about extremist activity but it was thought to be better to allow them to let of steam than bottle it up’

he said.

‘They thought that if the Muslim community was targeted, the fall-out would be greater. It would affect British interests around the world and project Britain as a less democratic society

David Blunkett, Home Secretary from 2001 to 2005 believes that the British security and political establishment did not - and still does not- fully understand the dimensions of the phenomenon it is fighting.

The Security World, he said was not generally given direct instructions from politicians but was instead sensitive to general zeitgeist.

‘It all got mixed up with people’s perceptions of what was going on in Israel and the Middle East. he said

‘People were saying, if only there was justice across the world these demands would be negotiable.’

Politicians were looking for political solutions to issues such as Palestine; this was what was in the air at the time, and the intelligence world would take its cue from that.

Reda Hussaine is an Algerian journalist, who, between 1999 and 2000, gave

MI5

-information about the Islamist radicalisation he observed taking place at Finsbury Park mosque in North London.

He was astonished to find his warnings were being ignored. ‘My contacts said:

We are giving these people a roof over their heads, food, free health care -and the security of Britain will be safe. WE don’t care what is going on outside this country’.

The British, he said, had a problem understanding the culture of the Arabs.

‘I told them; you don’t understand this kind of threat. One day they may attack you as unbelievers.’

They said, we don’t think they will do it here. This is a special place. I told them Britons were going to fight, but they never thought they would fight their own country.’

British officials privately admit that such a bargain did form part of their calculations. The Islamists were being left undisturbed on the assumption that they would not attack Britain.

This bargain, or ‘covenant of security’ had been a dirty secret at the heart of British government’s blind-eye policy. As long as there was no threat to Britain, the GOVERNMENT and SECURITY ESTABLISHMENT just didn’t want to know. They kept an eye on the radicals [not all the time or we wouldn’t have had the bombings on July 7-2006]

-but only to make sure that English law wasn’t being broken.

To the higher mandarinate of WHITEHALL’

Islamist extremism was merely an arcane dispute between different kinds of unpleasant swarthy people who were always doing terrible things to each other in far-flung places. There was certainly no cause for Britain to take sides.

Accordingly, the Islamist exiles in London were seen as being just the latest of all the radicals to whom Britain had traditionally given refuge for centuries.

Moral judgment - along with common sense- was therefore suspended for the duration.

It was also inextricably mixed up with the delicate issue of Britain’s traditionally close, if ambiguous ties with the Arab world. Not for nothing was the British Foreign Office known jovially as the “camel corps”.

[German intelligence has for over a hundred years done everything they could to exploit the close connection of Britain to the Arab world in their favour as they do today.]

‘The intelligence world took the view that we should soft -pedal on these radicals in London because of our interests in the Arab world,’ said David Blunkett. In particular, Britain had extensive commercial interests with Saudi Arabia.

In fact, British governments have always been prepared to negotiate with terrorists, as they once showed in Kenya and Northern Ireland. This is because the British Establishment tends to favour the short-term solution. Some call this pragmatism. Others call it a national instinct for

APPEASEMENT.

In the case of

LONDONISTAN

-it was to prove a policy of gross irresponsibility. In cynically promoting the narrowest interpretation possible of

NATIONAL INTEREST,

-the British acted as a midwife to the monster of

JIHAD

But there was another part of the British mindset that was more troubling even than it’s short-terminism or post-colonial arrogance.

This was its profound unwillingness - shared with the U.S. - to acknowledge that what the country was being confronted with was religious fanaticism, an unwillingness that continues to this day.

Oliver Revell was head of counter -intelligence for the

FBI

from 1980 to 1991.

He says that both the U.S and the UK have serious problems in dealing with radicalism rooted in religion.

‘The extremists have found the soft underbelly of Western civilisation, the sanctuary provided in its very heart by the commitment to

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

-he argues.

There was, and still is, a great reluctance to investigate any religious activity unless there is clear evidence that a crime is committed.’

To understand the depth of the reluctance and in comprehension in Britain, however, it is necessary first to consider one of the most deeply rooted of all aspects of the British character. This is its belief in the rational, the everyday and what is demonstrably evident, and its corresponding suspicion of the abstract or the theoretical.

Faced with a foaming ideologue, the British are less likely to succumb than to scoff.

But the downside of this robustly down-to -earth approach is that the British now find it very hard to deal with religious fanaticism.

Presented with patently ludicrous rantings, they refuse to believe that anyone can take it seriously. So when Islamist clerics such as Abu Hamza trumpeted their hatred of the West and their calls for a holy war against it,

MI5

-regarded them as little more than pantomime figures.

At the same time, Britain is too frightened by religious fanaticism even to acknowledge it.

As one foreign intelligence source put it:

‘During the 1990s, many attempts were made to enlighten the British about what was happening. But they refused to see the problem as having a religious character. If this was a religious problem, it became a religious confrontation - and the spectre of a religious war was unthinkable.

‘They were very concerned about social unrest among Asians in cities like Bradford, but they treated it more as a criminal matter.

After 9/11, they woke up in principle

BUT

NOT IN PRACTICE.

‘They still thought that the UK wasn’t in the front line, and if they continued with their policy of

“BENEVOLENCE”

-the same thing wouldn’t happen to them.’

David Blunkett admits it has taken him a long time to comprehend the real nature of the threat.

‘We just didn’t understand that they (the islamists) were not just anti-Western but on a different moral and philosophical plane altogether, and this is still not widely understood in the UK,’ he said.

‘We can be as nice as pie to them but its not the issue.

‘They are on a mission that has taken them outside anything we can say, a mission to destroy completely

OUR WAY OF LIFE.

[Exactly as Tony Blair and his fanatical pro-EU followers have in mind. It appears it is not ONLY a question of our being bombed into submission by religious fanatics but at the same time our politicians wish to destroy the same way-of-life by the unfair and at present undemocratic political process.]

Even now, he says, the British authorities fail to ask themselves what had so captured the minds of young men from Yorkshire that they would turn themselves into bombs.

[Because they felt they did not belong in that community and country]

‘Because they think it’s just a few extremists’, they are continuing to track the threat of big spectacular attacks, looking for example at transfers of materials for bombs, whereas what they should be looking at is what’s going on inside people’s heads’.

After last summer’s London bombings, Tony Blair spoke of the need to confront a strain of Islam that was an ‘ evil ideology’. It cannot be beaten except by confronting it- systems and causes- head -on, without compromise and without delusion.’ He declared.

Nevertheless, HIS GOVERNMENT and the wider British Establishment seems intent on appeasing that ideology - not least by inviting Islamist radicals into the heart of the Establishment.

This produced the extraordinary situation in which the task force of Muslims set up to advise the Government on how to counter Islamist extremism itself included extremists. Its final report took the view that the fault for Islamist terrorism lay as much with the Government as with the bombers.

It effectively proposed more, not less, Islamist separatism, with more Islam in school curriculum and Arabic lessons for women.

It opposed just about every government anti-terrorist proposal. It wanted changes in British foreign policy, which it said was a ‘key contributory factor’ for ‘criminal radical extremists’, with the implied threat that if foreign policy didn’t change there would be more attacks.

What had started as an exercise to get the Muslim community to grapple with the sources of extremism in its midst had been transformed into a demand for Britain to treat that community as a principal victim of British society and to make amends by dancing to its tune - including dictating how people talked about Islam, and censoring anyone who dissented.

The Government had quite simply handed over policy on extremism to the extremists.

This was no accident but a deliberate policy of riding the Islamist tiger. It has enraged truly moderate Muslims, who have protested that such a strategy pulls the rug from underneath them by undermining their OWN efforts to combate EXTREMISM.

The British Government thinks it is using Islamist radicals in a sophisticated strategy.

The reality is that it is being used by an ENEMY it DOES NOT UNDERSTAND, with the result that it is sleepwalking towards DISASTER.

We now learn from the Daily Mail COMMENT on Christmas Eve that the Queen's Speech will cover the catastrophic fall in Values and Moral behaviour since the beginning of her 56 -year reign. This has been brought about by the actions of HER MINISTERS and the greater number of those in HER PARLIAMENT who have placed THEIR CONCERNS before the INTERESTS of THE PEOPLE and NATION STATE.

 

 As for the fact that HER PEOPLE feel LOST that has been the direct result of the actions of HER SUCCESSIVE GOVERNMENTS and the TRAITOROUS POLITICIANS including PRIME MINISTERS who have stealthily over the 56 years of HER MAJESTY'S REIGN have almost achieved their aim of ENSLAVING the PEOPLE to a FOREIGN POWER. 

The reason for the marked drop in the number viewing THE QUEEN'S SPEECH is no doubt because the mass of people have realised years ago that the MONARCH is powerless to PROTECT their WAY-OF-LIFE and events up to now have PROVED THEM CORRECT.

THIS WEEK has been another terrible one for those of us who want a society in which all races, religions and cultures mix to their mutual advantage and

ENRICHMENT.

On Tuesday, five men were sentenced to life in prison for plotting to use a huge fertiliser bomb in what would have been the UK's largest mass murder.

Omar Khyam, Salahuddin Amin, Anthony Garciaand Jawa Akbar -first and second generation immigrants - responded to the tolerance of the British people

BY TRYING TO KILL AS MANY OF THEM AS POSSIBLE.

It is absurd to hope that the exposure of their evil after a 13-month trial which cost an estimated

£50,000,000

-has finally provided the wake-up call that this slumbering country so badly needs?

I'm one of those old-fashioned immigrants to this country who feels passionately grateful, is proudly British (as well as Irish -having been born in Dublin) and believes that immigrants have more duties than rights. And further, that one of those is to adjust to British society rather than expecting it to adjust to them. [ has been the practice for some decades but more so during the Blair years.]

However, one aspect of contemporary British society which I refuse to adjust to is its weakness in the face of the

ENEMY WITHIN

In my many conversations with like-minded people about the threat that radical Islam poses to the

 BRITISH WAY OF LIFE

-And indeed, to European civilisation -we frequently end by despairingly agreeing that the

WEST

-seems intention committing

POLITICAL and CULTURAL

SUICIDE.

When we look starkly at the demographic statistics, the wimpishness of our

ESTABLISHMENT

-in the face of the

THREAT

-the perversions perpetuated by

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

-and our passivity, it's hard to avoid the

CONCLUSION

-that within a couple of generations

ISLAM

-will be in

CONTROL of EUROPE

And before anyone says that there nothing wrong if this happened, since the vast majority of

MUSLIMS

are tolerant people who would not dream of interfering with

OUR WAY OF LIFE

-it's necessary  to point out that in

MUSLIM COUNTRIES

, it's usually the radicals and extremists

MULLAHS

-who regard

TOLERANCE

AS A VICE

-WHO MAKE THE RUNNING.

This occurs too in microcosm in

MUSLIM GHETTOS

around

EUROPE

We saw the frightening fundamentalist fringe of

ISLAM

-marching, threatening and perpetuating violence over the cartoons depicting

MOHAMMAD

IN

DENMARK

while the majority of Muslims - who, yes, of course are tolerant and decent - kept their mouths shut and stayed at

HOME

YES, Islam may be a great religion. BUT

-in its fundamentalist version, some of its values are antipathetic to ours, and if they triumph in

EUROPE 

-they will

THREATEN OUR VALUES

such as

FREEDOM OF THOUGHT

and

SPEECH

and the spirit of intellectual inquiry that made

EUROPEAN CIVILISATION

Great and Prosperous

 

The danger of ending up like these poor, despotic and medieval

Islamic States

-in which millions live miserably is the prospect that

CHRISTIANS

HINDUS

MODERATE MUSLIMS and NON-BELIEVERS -should be uniting

TO PREVENT

 

BUT THE TRUTH IS WE ARE DOING LITTLE TO STOP IT.

Consider first a few chilling statistics.

EUROPEANS ARE FAILING TO REPRODUCE

[Yet in our own island millions of potential citizens have been 

SLAUGHTERED AT BIRTH

thanks to David Steels -Abortion Bill of 1965?

It is still taking place in 2007 though there is NOW an  growing awareness of the tragedy to the potential mother and to society in general that many more doctors today are refusing to condone the

MURDER.

Recently the sight of full grown foetuses being deprived of their lives has now brought the horror and injustice of the action to destroy life.

In an age of contraception of many devices and anti-life pills it is unbelievable that any potential mother was unable to take the necessary steps to prevent conception.

David Steels Bill was to prevent back-street abortions and he himself a few ears ago voiced his concern as to what has happened over the years since.]

Europeans are failing to reproduce. Just to keep the population steady, you need 2.1 births per women

[This is a case for Government action by offering cash and other vital services to enable the reluctant mother to do her best for her community and country.]

However in 2005, the European average was 1.38.

In Ireland it was 1.9

France it was 1.89

Germany 1.35

Italy 1.23

Britain scored in the middle of this range with 1.6

BUT

That was because - like France - we have a large

MUSLIM POPULATION

with a high birth rate. Indeed,

MUSLIMS

are out breeding

 non-Muslims

through out

 EUROPE

Every Western women in the EU is producing an average of 1.4 children. Every Muslim women in the same countries is producing an average of 3.5 children.

The big question this poses is:

WHY ARE WE NOT REPRODUCING?

There are many reasons, but probably the most important are the decline of religion and the liberation of women.

[The populations which have the stronger religious stance will be the eventual rulers of Europe. It can be a Christian Europe or a Muslim Europe. The Governments of Europe and the shrinking United Kingdom have to decide.]

In Ireland, when the Roman Catholic Church effectively ran society, sex for procreation, contraceptives were banned, the normal size for a family was around five or six children, bur 12 or 13 were not uncommon.

As the country embraced secularism in the 1980s, birth rates plummeted, exacerbated by the new -found confidence of women that made them choose careers rather than domesticity.

WHEREAS in the 1970s, I was regarded in both the UK and Ireland as odd for being married but voluntarily childless, these days, childlessness |

IS A COMMON CHOICE

It is a world where one-child families abound and to have more than two children is to be regarded as eccentric and probably environmentally irresponsible.

Moreover, the erosion of family life and the long - hours culture place a heavy burden on those prepared to rear the next generation.

Despite these social forces, even in the UK, devote Muslims and Orthodox Jews obey instructions to have large families.

Confronted with this demographic revolution and official statistics which showed there were too few young people to support an ageing population, European governments decided to embrace

IMMIGRATION

-as an inherent good without any thought for the consequences.

As a result, politicians and businessmen assured us that we had to have economic growth in n order to prop up ever greater public spending and that it could be provided only by importing large numbers of workers from abroad

BUT WHY WASN'T THERE A NATIONAL DEBATE

ABOUT

Whether it was wise to mortgage our cultural future for the sake of a mess of financial pottage?

[A recent report on the cost  and benefit of large scale

IMMIGRATION

estimated that the country benefited by

ONLY - 50p

 for each migrant]

Where were the politicians arguing against the doctrine of

MULTICULTURALISM

-which holds that upholding majority values is somehow

ILLEGITIMATE

Who among the liberal elite's commentariat were challenging the moral relativism that flew in the face of

SENSE and SENSIBILITY

-by insisting that the culture of

Shakespeare

The King James Bible

Keats's poetry

Turner's paintings

and

Elgar's music

-was no more important than - the cultures of other

IMPORTED MINORITIES?

 

We know the answer all too well.

Cries of racism drowned out rational argument - not just here but throughout

OLD EUROPE

As one gloomster put it:

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

which is thought what

SENTIMENTALITY is to COMPASSION

-means that the intelligentsia of the

WEST

-has disarmed itself in advance of any possible struggle.

The result of all this, as recent events have made tragically clear, was that

BRITISH CULTURE

-was

UNDERMINED and SOCIAL COHESION

DAMAGED.

Separated from mainstream society by geographical and cultural apartheid, which has been fostered by

MULTICULTURALISM

-many immigrants were denied the chance to

INTEGRATE.

 

AND, INSTEAD OF BEING TOLD BY THE HOST COMMUNITY

THAT IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO ADHERE

-to the values of a liberal, pluralist democracy, they should

RETURN HOME

They were asked how they would like

BRITAIN

-to conform to

THEIR VALUES.

THE STORY WAS VERY MUCH THE SAME THROUGHOUT EUROPE

The robust American political commentator Mark Steyn, a disillusioned Anglophile has already written us off. The thesis of his Blackly comic book,

-is that the U.S. will survive because the

RELIGIOUS RIGHT ARE CONFIDENT

 AND

 REPRODUCE

BUT

 THAT EUROPE IS FINISHED

Its not just demographic decline, he says, it's also the unsustainability of the

MODERN WELFARE STATE

-in which we depend so much on our own individual resources.

We are also, he believes, suffering from 'civilisational exhaustion':

CULTURAL DISINTEGRATION

-brought about by

BIG GOVERNMENT

[Or if you prefer BIG BROTHER]

-which has fatally

DESTROYED OUR SENSE OF SELF-RELIANCE.

 

MEANWHILE, we are importing large numbers of unemployed youths from abroad in order to maintain

OUR

STANDARD OF LIVING

Yet many of these newcomers have nothing

BUT

CONTEMPT

 FOR OUR

WAY OF LIFE

-and some even wish

TO DESTROY IT

Steyn sees this as a

CIVIL WAR

which

EUROPE

-is too timid even to acknowledge - let alone

LET ALONE WIN

[This is something the Tory Mr Oliver Letwin or as we have said on a number of occasions Mr Let-them-win -and they will, who appears to be out of touch with the real issues that matter to our country in the early years of the 21st century.]

Mr Steyn says:

'Islam has youth and WILL

Europe has age and WELFARE.'

It's hard not to agree with Mark Steyn, especially as every day seems to bring more evidence

THAT AS A SOCIETY

WE ARE TERMINALLY

MAD

For example, this week's fertiliser bomb trial had heard that the key plotters had been radicalised by the hate preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed whom the judge condemned as

'a master of cowardice -who works in the shadows.'

This was the same firebrand who as an asylum -seeker here, had pocketed

£275,000

-in Welfare benefits.

[It is the same mentality shown by

Lord Chief Justice Phillips and Lord Falconer and many others

-who instead of spending the £32 million allocated for building prisons a few years ago are now doing almost anything in order to keep thousands of criminals many repeat offenders and dangerous, out of prison and giving many early release so they can go back to torment their victims and as has happened in a number of occasions returned to have another go at their robbery or other offence knowing that the worst that might happen is either a holiday or community service or whatever  and as many prisons these days are very much like 5star hotels there will be no hardship encountered if they are so lucky to win the prison admission lottery -then it will be a nice break to see old friends and anyway they will be out before they have completed their degree in political science or whatever.

The victims of crime, many of them elderly - poor and lonely won't as a rule be free of fear of their tormentor returning for a second or even third try to rob them of the little they have  and as has happened even assault and kill the defenceless pensioner - but some victims even lose heart and end their own lives by depriving themselves of food because they have lost hope that they can be safe again and we have their so-called protectors such as The Lord Chief Justice Phillips and Lord Falconer the new 'Justice' Minister ? who says 'Jail's the wrong place for burglars' and others who are doing whatever they can to keep the criminals out of jail. If the Army can put up a temporary  barracks in double quick time then there would be spaces for all the thousands of criminals who should be

OUT OF THE COMMUNITY.

Of course there would be complaints that the conditions are not up to the standards of the 5star prisons that they have 'visited' over the years and anyway there is

Tony Blair's

1998 HUMAN RIGHTS ACT

to keep them out of such uncomfortable surroundings which would not provide the 'key' service which has been introduced with their friendly solicitor providing a drugs service as an extra comfort.

THERE IS NO LONGER JUSTICE AS THE SENTENCE DOES NOT FIT THE CRIME

Despite all this, I still believe there are grounds for hope - largely because Muslim hotheads have overplayed their hand by blowing people up, rioting in their neighbourhoods or broadcasting hate -filled speeches which alienate them from the host community.

[Well we are of the opinion that until the Government shows to the Muslim population that they will not give way on insisting that ALL newcomers and those already with us conform to

OUR RULE OF LAW

 

-and punish without hesitation any breaches of the Law and make it plain that anyone who is a threat to our country WILL BE extradited. BUT of course we have Tony Blair's 1998 Human Rights Act and articles within the 1951 British led Convention of Human Rights which will need amending.

It should be made quite clear that those who have no intention to

INTEGRATE

-should be reminded of their commitment which they gave when they where granted immigration or asylum status (which should be a legal requirement in the future)

Unless drastic action is taken by the next Prime Minister as a priority , future generations of the indigenous population will find themselves foreigners in their own country with their religion and culture under growing  threat. revealed yesterday.

[The following disclosure was anticipated nine years ago when the original Mr Nice-Guy Tony Blair told everyone he was the people’s slave but in reality he was determined to change the face of England beyond recognition as soon as he could.

 

His fanatical EU policy could only be implemented if he was able to demolish any real identity of the English people which as we know was a walkover because of the national characteristic not to get too excited about what is going on around us and that is WHY Tony Bliar signed the Treaty of Rome last year above the heads of the people of England.

 

The newcomers were looked on as compliant New Labour voters and as a consequence they were in many cases treated far more favourably than the indigenous population even of those who had already settled in the country from many parts of the world many decades ago. ]

The system of grouping asylum seekers in towns and cities by their language was meant to protect them from ‘isolation’, officials said.

 

BUT critics voiced astonishment that the Government has been supporting policy that appears to

ENCOURAGE SOCIAL DIVISION AND SEGREGATION

INTEGRATION.

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis said the dispersal by language system was ‘very odd’.

 

It was begun in 2000 by Home Secretary Jack Straw. The National Asylum Support Service began to bus asylum seekers to regional towns and cities away from London and the South East, the destination preferred by the great majority.

 

Those who chose to go to London anyway, or to move from their appointed regional town, were denied free housing by the ASYLUM SUPPORT SERVICE.

 

The language system for dispersal was abandoned in April this year [2006], the Home Office insisted yesterday.

 

A spokesman said: ‘The idea was to ensure that people were not left isolated where they settled, and that they would have access to the appropriate support services.

 

‘The list is no longer in use by the Home Office, and the dispersal system is now kept under constant review.

 

The system operated under three Home Secretaries. Mr Straw, David Blunkett and Charles Clarke, and was used to choose where up to 50,000 asylum seekers a years were settled.

 

Officials called the towns and cities asylum seekers were sent ‘cluster areas’

 

But residents of the chosen towns were not told that asylum seekers directed to their districts were all from similar ethnic and cultural groups, and could therefore be expected to form separate communities.

 

The LANGUAGE MAP - revealed in leaked documents this weekend - appears to show that some groups of asylum seekers were sent to areas where there is already a community with a similar ethnic and cultural background.

 

Asylum Seekers from the Indian sub-continent were often directed to places such as Leeds, Oldham and Blackburn, which already have large Indian and Pakistani populations.

 

For other towns and cities, the language mix appears to have no guiding reasoning. Asylum support service officials do, however, give careful instructions that groups with a potential for conflict should be kept apart.

 

Serbians and Croatians, whose long enmity was deepened by the wars following the break-up of Yugoslavia in the early 1990’s [Germany recognised the independence of Croatia] were not sent to the same places.

 

Among Albanian speakers, ethnic Kosovans were separated from pothers.

 

The language system was ended this year shortly after Commission for Racial Equality chief Trevor Phillips gave his warning that British [predominantly English towns and cities] were

 

‘Sleepwalking to segregation’

 

Shadow Home Secretary Mr David Davis said:

 

‘I thought everybody appreciated that the key to good community relations is a proper level of integration.

 

‘This policy would appear to have exactly the opposite effect because it amounts to segregation. It is very odd.’

 

[Mr David Davis seems to find it ALL ‘ very odd’. With the dictionary meaning of ‘strange; queer; casual; out of the way, standing apart we would have thought much stronger language was in order but as Mr Nice-Guy-Dave has said-we mustn’t be too strong with our views of the Government.

 

’We need to remind him that it is the responsibility of Her Majesty’s Opposition to OPPOSE and had it been doing its job over the past nine years by probing vigorously Government policy on Immigration and Asylum Seekers and Foreign prisoners and the REAL reasons for the war in Iraq and much of what we now hear about might have been nipped in the bud. Former Home Office immigration official Steve Moxon -who lost his job after revealing how the Home Office was breaking its own rules by rubberstamping thousands of visa applications from Eastern Europe, even if the papers were not in order -said the system was bound to deepen

‘Migrant enclaves are all too easy to allow to grow and grow; and the larger and faster they grow, the less reason there is for individuals within them to integrate into the wider society.’ He said.

SUDDENLY, Britain seems to be developing into a cultural and religious battleground. Hard on the heels of Jack Straw’s criticism of the Muslim full-face veil, local government minister Phil Woolas has said that Aishah Azmi the Dewsbury teaching assistant who insists on wearing a veil in her primary school class-room, should be sacked.

Not to be outdone, the Shadow Home Secretary, David Davis, has accused Muslims of promoting a kind of ‘voluntary apartheid’

-by shutting themselves away in closed societies and demanding immunity from criticism, corroding the very foundations of

BRITISH [ENGLISH] CULTURE

Meanwhile, British Airways is being sued for religious discrimination after it required a Christian women employee to conceal her cross while permitting other faiths to wear turbans, hijabs or Hindu bangles.

The home culture is to be suppressed to show how tolerant and noble we are in our diversity agenda even if it places in peril the very identification of a land and people of over 1400 years as the home of

This echoed the controversy earlier this month when the BBC agonized over whether newsreader Fiona Bruce should wear a small cross on a chain in case it might cause offence.

[In a Christian country whose people in a recent poll  - with 70 per cent who acknowledged their faith whether practiced or not.]

How can Britain have arrived at a situation where it is seriously argued that a class of children who don’t speak English as their first language should be taught by a shrouded women whose expression they can’t see and whose voice they can’t hear properly – while the BBC thinks that wearing the symbol of Britain’s established religion might be offensive?

Those who defend the Muslim veil are grossly misreading the situation.  It is not some picturesque religious garment equivalent to the often-curious attire  worn by members of other religions.  It is associated instead with the most extreme version of

The recent disturbances in Windsor sounded an urgent alarm. The Muslim owner of a dairy in the town applied for planning permission to turn it into a

MOSQUE and ISLAMIC CENTRE.

Although the Council turned down the application, locals say the owner ignored this and extremist worshippers regularly turned up in the dairy to pray.

Trouble flared when a 15-year-old non-Muslim boy was attacked outside the ‘mosque’. When the boy’s mother and 18-year –old-sister arrived to remonstrate they were apparently set upon by people, allegedly, wielding iron bars and pitchforks.

They set in train four nights of disturbances when, according to the police, both white racists and Muslim extremists muscled in and the dairy was firebombed.

In a further unrelated but disturbing development in the town, four British soldiers returning from Afghanistan were forced to abandon a house they were planning to rent after threats and intimidation by Muslims. And all this in the heart of the Home Counties.

 

Such Islamic aggression is gaining ground because of the collapse of British majority values. In remarks in his controversial interviews that have been largely ignored, the head of the Army General Sir Richard Dannatt , observed that Britain’s Christian anchor had been pulled up, leaving the country’s ‘

moral compass spinning.’

As a result, its values were being threatened by a ‘considerable body of opinion that would like to challenge the nature of society.

Within the Church itself, there are faint stirrings of a challenge to its hitherto supine surrender to cultural collapse. An unpublished paper written by the inter faith adviser to the Archbishop of Canterbury has been sidelined by’ preferential’ treatment afforded to the Muslim community, including using public funds to fly Muslim scholars to Britain, shelving legislation on forced marriage and encouraging national financial arrangements to comply with Islamic requirements.

The most grotesque example of all however, is surely the proposal to build the largest m0sque in Europe on the site of the Olympic village in East London.

ONLY a Prince of the realm –a firm defender of the Christian Faith  -will be respected by the World leaders of the World’s Faiths.

 As over 800 years ago King Richard the Lionheart of England

and Saladin fought each other

 nobly and held each other worthy antagonists.

 There are few things more enjoyable than when a Leftie admits, or pretends to admit, he was wrong.

 We saw it a year ago when Trevor Phillips, commissioner-in-chief of the Commission for racial Equality, said that

MULTICULTURLISM

 -had not been a huge success, and that those from other cultures who came here were better off learning to be British.

 

[‘When in Rome do as the Romans do’ so those fortunate to find a home in England need to concentrate on English culture and those who go West or North of the border will soon get to know how to integrate with the local scene.

We have a Queen of England -We have a Church of England- just about so long as the Man of many Faiths does not get his way. We have English Law -just about, and so many things of English origin and practice that we would be repeating ourselves to declare an interest.

 

[The term British we leave as an overall label to embrace England as a partner with the other sister nation states in our island home and we hope one day our neighbours will come to the realisation that their interests should also include the interests of the People of England who by the way are getting quite fed-up with the way they pay the lion’s share of their increased benefits without the right to have their solely English issues raised in OUR House of Commons the concern of English MPs ONLY. ]

Someone of whom I hoped we had heard the last, the former

Archbishop of Canterbury-Lord Carey

-made a predictable intervention in this debate from beyond the grave last weekend.

 

He proclaimed that the Coronation of our next monarch must be an “interfaith” event. The ceremony must, he added, “have “very significant changes”, so that it is “inclusive” of other religions in Britain.

 

Lord Carey clearly has in mind what Private Eye would term a “Rocky Horror” coronation service. Never mind your archbishops, or even your Christians, your imams, your rabbis, ayatollahs, your assorted holy men and other diverse priests, layers -on-hands and speakers-in-tongues: in accordance with the professions of religious belief on the 2001 census forms, I expect to see a few Jedi knights in the sanctuary, while devotees of Ras Tafari smoke ganja at the high altar. And, as one of the realm’s noisiest atheists, I hope for a part in the proceedings, too, that I might feel “included”.

 

Having long regarded the Church of England as many people regard EastEnders, I have steeled myself not to intrude in its private grief, but to lament the largely self-inflicted decline of this great institution. Though it has, to my great spiritual regret, nothing to offer me personally, I can appreciate not merely the potential it has to succour and strengthen millions of believers, but also its role in

OUR CULTURE

OUR CONSTITUTION

OUR NATION

 

At the heart of this remains the great legacy of the

 

REFORMATION

  -that the

Monarch

 

is Supreme Governor

of the

Church of England.

-which is the Established Church of this Realm.

 

As the 37th of the 39 Articles (“on the Civil Magistrates”) puts it,

 

“the Bishop of Rome hath no jurisdiction in this

Realm of England.

 

Quite right: and were we to update that Article as we fetishistically seek to update everything else, we might also add that no mullahs, rabbi, Jedi or Rastafarian has any jurisdiction here.

 

However, intrude into the Church’s grief we now must: for Lord Carey’s successor on the throne of St Augustine, Dr Rowan Williams, who in many regards seems even more to inhabit the wilder shores of the theology than Lord Carey, is having none of this nonsense.

 

He has picked up on the threat issued by our probable next monarch, the Prince of Wales, in 1994 about how (in that very “ last century” spirit) the Prince wanted to be

 

“Defender of Faiths”

 

Some of us boring old pedants saw the stupidity of this at the time. It is not in a King’s job description to defend “faiths”, and cannot be unless the whole constitutional arrangement that binds Church and State is unravelled.

 

More to the point, the notion of defending “faiths” imposes the King on secular legal matters -for the practising of faiths other than that of the Established Church is defended in fact by various Acts of Parliament- in which he has no place.

 

Although one has never been entirely sure that the Prince of Wales has fully grasped this point, he is NOT a politician; and few things these days are more political than the right to profess assorted faiths that NOT traditional to this country.

 

Dr Williams said of the Prince in 2003 that “Unless something really radical happens with the Constitution, he is, like it or not,

-and he has a relationship with the Christian Church of a kind that he does not have with other communities”.

 

THAT IS SELF-EVIDENTLY THE CASE.

 

Of course, were our Queen to emulate her late mother (and I fervently hope she does) there will be no Coronation for another 20 or so years.

 

Perhaps the needless vandalism of

 

OUR CONSTITUTION

 

-will have been completed by then.

 

Perhaps there will be a different heir to the throne [Prince William]. Perhaps the moon will be made of green cheese. Until such times as these things happen, Dr William’s view must prevail, and his predecessor would be best advised to keep his bizarre views to himself.

 

For the Coronation Service, religious though it be, is about more than religion.

 

When the time comes, only a relatively small section of our people (and by no means just Christians, let alone Anglicans) would savour the religious significance of the EVENT.

 

For the rest of us, the symbolism will transcend the religious. Some will see the CONSTITUTIONAL point, and realise how the traditional form of words and practices provides us with a Monarch who will carry on business as usual.

 

For most of those watching the their plasma screens, however, the day will be about a sense of familiar NATIONAL IDENTITY

-embodied, however much or little they realise it, in the person of the

NEW SOVEREIGN.

 

Now, Lord Carey might argue that altering the service to “include” Shias, Sunnis, Hindus, Zoroastrians and Jehovah’s Witnesses would not altar that symbolism:

 

But he would be WRONG!

 

It is not only that too many of our people have seen newsreels of the last Coronation 53 years ago, and therefore have a fixed cultural idea of what it is supposed to be. It is about the NEW MONARCH, and the CEREMONY of CORONATION of which he is the heart, fitting in with what his people understand, implicitly or explicitly, about THEMSELVES, and the NATION of which they are A PART.

 

It is Trevor Philip’s point writ large: -it is about a country being given its cultural stability partly by

HISTORY and TRADITION

-and about people buying into that when they choose to become A PART of the COUNTRY.

 

That is what inclusiveness means: It is how countries as diverse as France and America both do things. It is about having a template of Frenchness or American-ness, and welcoming people into that civilisation and THOSE humane values by asking them to participate in them. We still, despite the attempts of such VANDALS as LORD CAREY, have a core CULTURE in this COUNTRY.

 

Christianity and the expectation that Christianity will, for historic reasons prevail and be accepted as prevalent, are central to that CULTURE. And a few events in the nation’s life symbolise such an understanding more than the traditional coronation service.

 

The next CORONATION will be a formal renewal of

OUR WAY OF LIFE

And

OUR VALUES.

 

It will formally recognise not only the legitimacy of the MONARCH in the eyes of GOD and the BRITISH constitution, but also of the identification of the vast majority of his subjects with the process of doing so. For that reason above all others it must be clear, comprehensible and in keeping with public expectations of such an event.

 

WE ARE NOT A MULTICUTURAL SOCIETY

 

WE ARE A MONOCULTURAL ONE -TOLERANT OF OTHER CULTURES.

 

AND WHOSE CLEAR IDENTITY IS UNDERSTOOD BY THE PEOPLE - IF NOT BY THEIR LEADERS.

 

WE ARE AN OLD COUNTRY WITH A STRONG SENSE OF CONTINUITY.

 

AND ANYONE WHO TRIFLES WITH SUCH MANIFESTATIONS OF OUR ANTIQUITY AND STABILITY DOES SO AT HIS PERIL.

Nationality and Domicile

 

In speaking of king and parliament we are no longer speaking of what in strictness of language are merely English institutions; the parliament represents the United Kingdom, and king and parliament have supreme legislative power over territories which lie in every quarter of the globe.

 

Of this parliament we must speak.

 

Below it there are many institutions, some of which are specifically Scottish, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Indian; for example the judicial systems of England, Ireland and Scotland are distinct from each other, though at the supreme point they unite in the House of Lords.

 

It is of great importance to distinguish those institutions which like the kingship and the parliament are (we can hardly avoid the term) imperial institutions, from those which like the

HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE

-are specifically English, and I strongly advise you not to use the words England and English when you mean what is larger than England and more than English.

 

When we have dealt with the institutions, which have power over all the British dominions, we shall, being Englishmen in an English university, deal with some purely English institutions the High Court of Justice, not with the Scottish Court of Sessions -but let us keep this distinction firmly in our minds; if we are Englishmen, we are subjects of a sovereign whose power extends over millions and millions of men who are not English. [1908]

 

Let me illustrate this by a further remark. There are two conceptions, which are of great importance to students of international law:

 

-the one nationality, the other domicile.

 

Now there is no such thing as English nationality, and there is no such thing as British domicile. [1908]

The Englishman, the Scot, the Irishman, the Canadian, and the Australian -all of these have a nationality in common. [1908]

 

If there be a war between the United Kingdom and a foreign power, say France, all of them are enemies of the French, any of them who side with the French are traitors. [1908]

 

But there is no such thing as British domicile -

Because there is no one system of private law common to all the British dominions; a man is domiciled in England or Scotland or New Zealand, and to a very large extent the law under which he lives varies with his place of domicile.

 

If I abandon my English domicile, and become domiciled in Scotland, this will have important legal results for me, but my nationality remains what it was. So by England let us mean England, a land, which consists of fifty-two counties [1908]

The term BRITISH should ONLY be used when it concerns ALL the nation States within our island home -such as with Defence as virtually all other matters have been handed over to the other national bodies in Scotland and Wales.

 

Let us hear no more about Britishness but more about Englishness-Scottishness and Welshness because that is the situation we find ourselves in 2006.

To return to Britishness in our shared island there needs to be a return of an

English Parliament.

Only then will the term British regain its true meaning.

In 1831 and 1832 the Parliamentary constitution was placed upon a wider and more secure basis; and although much yet remains to be accomplished before we can justly affirm that all classes are duly represented in Parliament, assuredly we are no longer exposed to the same risks of seeing LIBERTIES destroyed, and the same hazard of having to protect ourselves by resistance; nor can any one now deny that the democratic principle enters largely into the frame of our MIXED MONARCHY

 

This great change is much more than sufficient to counterbalance all the increase of influence that as been acquired by the CROWN since the REVOLUTION, including the vexations which unavoidably attend the administration of our fiscal laws for the collection and protection of a vast revenue, and the creation of a numerous and important body. Every day, the road to Brexit seems to get bumpier. The mixed messages coming from Downing Street certainly don’t help.

The latest confusion was caused when, on the one hand, the Government’s Chief Whip, Julian Smith, said he plans to bring the EU (Withdrawal) Bill back to the Commons for a vote earlier than expected, in a move that pleased Brexiteers who want to face down Remain MPs as soon as possible.

However, on the other hand, Downing Street was briefing that the Government may give hope to Remainers by asking the EU for a second Brexit transition period to run until 2023.

No wonder so many of the 17.4 million who voted Leave are getting deeply frustrated.

But while Brussels negotiators continue to stymie Brexit, European politicians are facing a much bigger threat to the European Union.

I refer to events of the past few days in Italy, which will be Europe’s third largest economy after Britain leaves the European Union.

This week, a new government was formed — Italy’s 66th since the end of World War II.

The new prime minister, Guiseppe Conte, heads a rag-bag coalition of the anti-Establishment Five Star Movement and the far-right League.

They agree on very little but there is one policy on which they are in harmony: a hatred of Brussels.

It is no exaggeration to say that Mr Conte, a former law professor at Florence University, has the power to bring about the collapse of the EU.

He came to power on a wave of burning national resentment over Italy’s membership of the EU, which millions of Italians believe has been an unmitigated disaster for their country.

Above all, there is the problem of immigration, which was a key issue in March’s elections.

Brussels’s freedom of movement rules are blamed for record numbers of migrants in the country.

At least one million, for example, have settled in Italy from Romania, a fellow EU member. But huge numbers have made their homes in Italy after crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa.

From Libya alone in the past four years, an estimated 600,000 migrants and refugees have reached Italy.

These people know that once on Italian soil, they have a very good chance of being able to begin a new life there or exploit freedom of movement to live in any other of the 28 countries in the EU.

Italy’s new government has pledged to deport up to half a million migrants, to clear illegal gipsy settlements in towns and cities, and to recruit more police and build new prisons to deal with the problems.

This hardline reaction to Brussels’s soft approach to illegal immigration amounts to a huge challenge to its authority and imperils the cohesion of the EU.

But immigration is not the only issue over which Italy’s new government is at war with Brussels.

The country, once an economic success story almost as remarkable as Germany’s, has been brought to its knees by Brussels.

This tragedy dates back to Italy’s decision to join the euro at its launch in 1999. It proved to be a calamitous error.

With its own currency, the lira, the Italian government was able to manage its own affairs and devalue its currency if necessary to make itself competitive.

However, the euro has imposed a financial strait-jacket which has led to the closure of thousands of businesses, with millions of people put out of work.

Shockingly, Italy has not seen any cumulative economic growth since it signed up to the European single currency.

The Italian people know that their membership of the EU is to blame for mass unemployment, social collapse and uncontrolled migration. The new Italian PM, Mr Conte, is the first political leader to genuinely represent the national mood of outrage — and sorrow — at their post-lira impoverishment.

Italy’s national debt is a staggering 132 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product — the second highest in the EU, after Greece.

To try to prevent a crisis of ever bigger proportions, the European Central Bank lent Italy €600 billion (about half a trillion pounds sterling) in order to stop it going bankrupt.

Meanwhile, Mr Conte is promising tax cuts and public spending increases to try to undo the damage to his country’s economy.

As night follows day, though, the Brussels bully-boys — the same ones who have been trying to block Brexit — will threaten him with dire consequences unless he backs down.

We witnessed a similar stand-off when Greece’s economy hit the rocks and had to be bailed out with billions of euros in loans from Brussels.

The Greek people reacted to this national humiliation by voting for a vehemently anti-EU government three years ago.

But they were then shabbily let down when their new prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, abjectly caved in to the strong-arm tactics of European leaders.

Mr Conte is unlikely to yield in the same way.

Italy is ten times bigger than Greece. Unlike Greece, Italy is too big to fail.

It is quite possible that Mr Conte will threaten that Italy will pull out of the euro — a move that would instil terror in Brussels and Frankfurt.

Returning to the lira would be a desperate measure, but it would be the economically sane thing to do.

It would give the Italian economy a chance to be competitive again and end the stagnation and mass unemployment which have wrecked countless hundreds of thousands of lives over two decades.

Leaving the euro would mean that Italy would renege on its €600 billion in loans from the European Central Bank.

Without doubt, the bank would collapse. The EU would go into financial and political meltdown.

The ineluctable truth is that Italy is now a ticking time bomb, and I fear it is only a question of time before it explodes, with consequences for the continent which are impossible to predict.

How ironic that the founders of the EU’s predecessor, the EEC, were driven in part by a desire to prevent a repeat of the terrible bloodshed of the two great wars of the 20th century, but their hubristic attempts at political and economic union have instead created division and hatred.

Europe is not just creaking — it is falling apart.

Is it any surprise the British people had the good sense to vote to leave the EU?

The worrying message: Britain approves torture 
 

Two weeks have passed since Theresa May apologised for the Blair government’s role in the kidnap and torture of Libyan dissident Abdul Hakim Belhaj.

Mrs May was not to blame for this repugnant case. The two men most responsible were then Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and MI6 official Sir Mark Allen.

Yet Straw remains a Privy Councillor and Allen keeps his knighthood. Both men have brought shame on Britain, and if they aren’t stripped of their honours it will suggest that the British State approves of torture.

One of the fiercest critics of the Prime Minister’s handling of

Brexit

has been the Institute of Directors, the organisation representing Britain’s most senior business people.

What a pity that it cannot handle its own affairs. Membership has almost halved from 55,000 in 2005 to just over 30,000 today.

What right does Soros have to interfere in the internal affairs of a foreign country, especially one which voted conclusively to regain its full sovereignty from a remote pan-European technocracy?

Two years down the drain. Two years of vacillation, obfuscation, cowardice, sabotage and outright betrayal. And that's just from our own Government.

 

On June 23, 2016, in a referendum, 17.4 million people voted to leave the European Union.

No ifs, no buts.

The question on the ballot paper was unambiguous, the so-called catastrophic consequences spelled out in plain English in a brochure distributed to every single home in the country by a Government which was desperate to Remain.

Campaigning was exhaustive, lasting six whole months. We knew exactly what voting Leave would mean. 

 

No single market, no customs union,

 no more submitting to the jurisdiction of European courts.

We would be retaking control of our borders, our laws, our traditional territorial waters and our national destiny.

Project Fear did its worst and failed. More people voted Leave than have ever voted for anything in our history. By now, we should be as good as gone, with only a few minor details to be ironed out.

Yet two years on, just as I feared, we're no nearer the exit. Every day seems to bring yet another blatant attempt to derail the process, to keep us subjugated in perpetuity as prisoners of a sclerotic, anti-democratic European superstate.

The latest comes from a group bankrolled by the billionaire hedge funder George Soros, a Hungarian-born American who made his fortune betting against the pound on Black Wednesday in 1992.

Having earned the nickname of the Man Who Broke The Bank Of England, he is now determined to become The Man Who Broke The Will Of The British People.

What right does Soros have to interfere in the internal affairs of a foreign country, especially one which voted conclusively to regain its full sovereignty from a remote pan-European technocracy?

Yet the same people here who are squealing about Russia meddling in the U.S. election (because that delivered the 'wrong' result, too) are cheering him on.

This self-appointed fifth column will stop at nothing to overturn the referendum result. The stitch-up started the moment the result was announced.

We've had endless legal challenges, and the disgraceful attempts by the unelected, self-serving Lords to stop Brexit.

Project Fear — far from admitting it lost fair and square, packing up its tent and going home —has been ramping up the volume, aided and abetted by the BBC, the Financial Times and the political establishment.

The head of Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, John Thompson, joined in this week, warning that technology designed to keep trade flowing seamlessly after Brexit would cost businesses £20 billion and take at least three years to introduce after the proposed 'transition' period is due to end.

Such a delay would keep us in the customs union until December 2023. That's seven years after we voted Leave — longer than it took us to defeat Nazi Germany.

Thompson obviously hadn't read Robert Hardman's brilliant dispatch in last Saturday's Mail from the port of Felixstowe, where a comparable system works without a hitch and could easily be applied elsewhere, including the Irish border.

The governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, a siren voice of Project Fear, waded back in by claiming every British family would be 'up to potentially' £900 a year worse off after Brexit.

What does 'up to potentially' actually mean? I'll tell you — he made it up. It's a guess, pure and simple. This figure is about as accurate as all the other scaremongering forecasts the Bank put out during the referendum.

Carney, a Canadian, is one of the worst of the Remoaner stooges. He's supposed to be independent, but owes his job to the political establishment. 

He maintains Brexit will be a retrograde step, an economic disaster, but at the same time is said to harbour ambitions of becoming the next Prime Minister of proudly independent Canada.

So let him explain something. This time last year, I was sitting in a waterfront seafood restaurant on the Detroit River, looking across at Windsor, Ontario.

The distance from the U.S. to Canada at this point is about the width of the Thames at Dartford.

Every day thousands of trucks trundle across the border in either direction, carrying imports and exports of everything from car components to Canadian bacon.

If Carney does stand as PM, will he tell his fellow countrymen that all this trade will have to stop unless they agree to be ruled by America, have their laws decided in Washington and surrender the right to decide who lives in their country? Of course not.

So why should the prosperity of Britain, the world's fifth biggest economy, be determined by whether or not we belong to the EU and take orders from Brussels? 

Look, we expect Remoaners to insult our intelligence, tell us we were too stupid to know what we were voting for, and fight to the last ditch to stop us leaving.

We just have to live with it, although I can do without the constant bombardment of anti-Brexit lies and intimidation masquerading as 'news' which seems to dominate every TV and radio bulletin.

Labour is a lost cause, too. Despite promising in its last manifesto to respect the Brexit vote, Labour is now only interested in bringing down the Government — even if that means betraying the millions of traditional Labour supporters who voted Leave.

My biggest worry all along has been the Tory Government itself, even before Theresa May sacrificed her majority in that vainglorious General Election last year.

Regular readers will know I'm no fan of Mother Theresa. I thought Boris deserved the job when Call Me Dave committed hara-kiri. 

He was the figurehead for the Leave campaign and the spoils should have gone to the victor.

If he'd screwed up, we'd be no worse off than we are now. At least Boris believed — and still believes — in Brexit and is about the only Cabinet voice making an optimistic case for our bright global future once we can break free of the EU yoke.

Frankly, I've never thought Mother Theresa was up to the job. I'm not even sure her heart is in leaving the EU, despite promising that 'Brexit means Brexit'.

She's bungled the negotiations, has been captured by the Civil Service and has allowed herself to be bullied not just by Barnier and his team, but by the Remainiacs in her own party.

Tory Brexiteers aren't 'rebels', as they are frequently described disparagingly. They were on the winning side and speak for 17.4 million people, outside the Westminster bubble, not a handful of hardcore metropolitan malcontents.

May's inherent indecision, which has characterised her career, has enabled the opponents of Brexit to seize the initiative at every turn.

She should never have agreed to give the EU a penny, let alone £39 billion as a basis for negotiation, and she should have simply ignored their cynical posturing over the Irish border. 

Allowing them to raise the spectre of a return to violence was monstrous.

They're doing it again over the Galileo satellite project, saying the UK will be denied vital defence intelligence. 

Two can play at that game. Our response should be to tell the EU that they can forget about any co-operation from GCHQ, Scotland Yard and British security services.

And anyway, our American allies have got a perfectly good satellite system which they are happy to share with us. Have a nice day.

Mrs May hasn't had a bad three months, after her trials and tribulations last year. Is it too much to hope that she might be emboldened to take a tougher line on Brexit, at home and abroad.

She should start immediately by creating 800 new peers. They will only be appointed if they agree to two conditions: 1) Vote through all Brexit legislation. 2) Once that's done, they must vote for the abolition of the House of Lords.

Their reward will be that they can keep the titles, which will help them secure a few directorships and jump the queue at fashionable restaurants. Trust me, there'd be no shortage of applicants.

As I've long maintained, we won't get an acceptable deal from the EU negotiators unless Mrs May is prepared to walk away, Renee. Shamefully, the Government seems ill prepared for No Deal.

Nobody should need reminding that Europe has more to lose than Britain — both economically and militarily. 

Surrendering to every demand from Brussels is not, and should not be, an option. Nor is trying to appease the Remainers in her own party.

Do the Soubrys, Morgans and Grieves really want to risk bringing down their own Government and ushering in the Corbyn terror? May should read them the riot act — not demonise Jacob Rees-Mogg, who is only speaking for the majority of voters.

If the PM has learned one thing this year it is that standing up to bullies pays off. Her popularity and reputation rocketed at home and abroad when she faced down Putin over the Salisbury poisoning.

If Mother Theresa can find the courage to stand up to Russia, then isn't it time, after two years of vacillation and capitulation, that she summoned up the backbone to face down the EU?

[WE were surprised a matter of some months ago when we saw the close warm greeting between Mrs May and Angela Merkel when they met to discuss BREXIT. WE expected that they would have kept at arms length. PERTINENT LEGAL ADVICE BY LEOLIN PRICE, QUEEN’S COUNSEL

 

The following Legal Opinion was provided by the distinguished veteran constitutional lawyer, Leolin Price QC, in response to a request to consider the following questions:

1. )  Can ministers of the Crown be held culpable for the misuse of UK taxpayers’ money (i.e., of UK Government funds) by the European Commission and/or European Union; and

2. ) Can Britain withhold its contributions to the EC budget on the ground that UK taxpayers’ funds are being misused (embezzled, defrauded, misappropriated, misallocated, misrepresented, etc)? But in reality, these questions are themselves superfluous since, as exposed in this issue [of International Currency Review-Vol 30,4 dated October 10-2005, cstory@worldreports.org

 

  Britain’s EU membership was procured fraudulently, so that under the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (1969), Britain has every right to leave the EU unilaterally and to cease payment.

 

1.    I preface this Opinion by acknowledging that I am not aware of any precedent for the sort of proceedings in court against Ministers of the Crown, whether civil or criminal, which I am asked to consider.

2.                  But there are two relevant principles of English law to be borne firmly in mind: first, that the King (or Queen) can do no wrong [We must make it clear at the outset that this does not include King Tony-whatever he may think]; secondly, that every subject of the Queen is subject to the RULE OF LAW and equal before the law.  There is no special privilege or status for Ministers or other officers of the Crown.

 

They are vulnerable and ought to be answerable in our courts if something which they have done is not properly authorised by law, infringes the rights of individuals and causes damage.

3.There is also learning about when an officer of the Crown can plead, as a defence to a claim by someone who has suffered from some act of that officer, that what was done was an ‘Act of State’.  A British subject cannot sue the Queen (because the ‘Queen can do no wrong’); and if an act, of which a British subject complains of, is in civil law, a tort, the officer cannot assert that the act complained of was an act, which had been authorised by the Crown (in reality the Government).

 

The Act of State is not available to the officer in that situation.  He must, if he can, show that what was done was a lawful exercise of some power lawfully conferred by

Act of Parliament

Otherwise:

4.)             But a somewhat different line of modern authority R v Inland Revenue Commissioners ex p Smedley [1985] AC657 recognises that a person – in ex p Smedley, a British taxpayer and elector – may have a ‘sufficient interest’ to bring judicial review proceedings against Government authorities and Ministers.

 

·    Can Ministers of the Crown be held culpable for the misuse of taxpayers’ money (i.e. of UK Government funds) by the European union?

5.)             This is the first – and primary – question on which I am asked to advise [Leolin Price, Queen’s Counsel]

6.)             My answer is that our Courts will not recognise that any direct responsibility is imposed by Government or the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the subsequent application, by the Commission of the European Communities Act or the EU, of our taxpayers’ money which is paid over in accordance with the established legal procedures for making our contributions to the European Union.

7.)             But the history and circumstances of fraud, at the centre of the European Union and in ‘Member States’, and the conspicuous failure of the Commission or the European Union to establish any proper (and obviously necessary) accountancy controls over what happens to the money which is provided by ‘Member States’, has produced a situation in which the British elector and taxpayer may reasonably consider that it is a failure of duty for the Government, Chancellor of the Chequer and treasury to go on handing over our money to what he may reasonably consider is an organisation which is incapable of doing and unwilling to do, anything effective about the corrupt and fraudulent diversion of EU funds.  The history of incapacity and unwillingness includes the following:

(1)    The resignation of the whole Commission upon its acknowledgement of collective responsibility for corruption and fraud.

(2)    In spite of that admission of collective responsibility, the continuation in office of all but one of the resigned Commissioners.

(3)    A continuing failure to establish a minimum of accounting controls over the Commission’s expenditure of money at the centre or within ‘Member States’

(4)    Failure by the Commission, in response to acknowledged and massive misuse of EU money, to establish any regime with a minimum of efficiency and designed in accordance with modern accountancy standards to monitor the expenditure of EU money and to minimise its misuse.

(5)    The apparent inability of the Commission to prevent, or reasonably to combat and control, the corrupt and fraudulent misuse of EU money, including contributions from the United Kingdom.

 

8.           Faced with that history, a UK elector and taxpayer could reasonably expect his Government to suspend, wholly or partly, the further contribution of money from the United Kingdom to the European Union in the continuing absence of proper EU accountancy and controls to combat and contain fraud and corruption and other misuse of EU money; and could reasonably expect English Courts to support his claim for such suspension.

9.           In the circumstances, and before the next instalment of the UK contribution to the EU is to be paid, a UK taxpayer could apply for permission to bring judicial review proceedings challenging the making of the payment on the ground that no responsible Minister of Department of OUR Government could regard it as appropriate to pay over money without any reasonable expectation or even hope that the recipient EU institutions have made any reasonable arrangements to avoid its being, with other EU money, misused.  Experience, especially experience since the collective resignation of the Commission [in 1999], indicates that the money so contributed will be at serious risk of not being used for the purposes for which our Treaty obligations and our law require it to be contributed [sic].

10.  Will such judicial review proceed -ings be successful? The practical and realistic answer is that the [English] Courts will be reluctant to permit the review; but there is a presentable argument, and although there is no previous reported case which provides a precise precedent, it represents a logical development of what has been recognised in reported cases; and the continuing scandal about misuse of EU money provides ground for seriously contending that judicial review ought to be, and is, available to stop exposing UK money to the obvious risk of EU failure to avoid misuse.

11.      The withholding of Treaty-required contributions, which are at serious risk of not being properly used for Treaty purposes, is not-or arguably, is not- a breach of Treaty obligations. [Editor; However as is shown in this issue – of International Currency Review Vol 30,4 the treaty obligations themselves are not applicable,

since the

British Accession Treaty, and collective treaties, were signed for corrupt reward by agents of a Foreign Power.]

12.  The argument will be that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, as a Crown servant, is a guardian of taxpayers’ money and it is a breach of the duties involved in that guardianship to pay over money which, in the hands of the recipient Commission and the EU, will be at such serious risk of misuse.  The First defence will be that the payment is required by our Treaty obligations and by Acts of Parliament; but the answer to that is that the Treaty obligations and Parliament provide authority for payment to support Treaty purposes and NOT to expose the money to established and substantial risk of misuse.

13.   An alternative form of proceedings might be criminal proceedings against the Chancellor for misuse of public money under his control.  The argument for this is that the payment is a serious breach of public duty:  it condones and encourages and facilitates the misuse, and the misuse is foreseeable.  Those instructing me may consider it worthwhile attempting such a criminal case; and it may be that the launching of such a criminal case will achieve judicial discussion of the public duty and its breach.  It is, nevertheless, my opinion that such criminal proceedings will not be successful.

14.      , The better choice of proceedings is judicial review.

FOR THE many men in her life, it was love at first sight. ‘I was captivated by her sheer beauty,’ declared one of her eminent lovers, a government minister.

‘She was slimly built with a beautifully proportioned body and graceful curves just where they should be. She was every young man’s dream.

 

‘Mind you, she was what mother called a fast girl. I was advised to approach her gently. But once safely embraced in her arms, I found myself reaching heights of delight I had never before experienced.

 

IT WAS NOT A WOMEN that Captain Harold Balfour Under-Secretary of State in the pre-war Ministry of Air, was drooling over back in the thirties [The Gathering Storm years] after his first meeting with HER. It was the British fighter plane that would change the course of history -the

 

Spitfire

 

But for all his passion, even he could not have predicted what a battle-winner she would prove to be. Not that she would come to be the very icon of British guts and defiance. Nor that decades later -into the 21st century in fact-the sight of her flying over London on special anniversaries would bring tears to the eyes of grown men and women.

   

The promise of a Spitfire in the skies can still lure thousands to an Air Show, just for a glimpse of those elegant lines, the purr of that Rolls-Royce engine and all the history and glamour, death and glory, packed into her 31ft fuselage and 37ft wing-span.

 

TOMORROW

Sunday the 5th March 2006 is another historic anniversary.

It is 70 years [In March 2018-it will be 82 years ] to the day since the very first

 

Spitfire

  

Prototype climbed into the skies at

  

Eastleigh in Hampshire

 

-half its fuselage covered in a dirty yellowish-green wash, the rest rough and unpainted.

 

Captain ‘Mutt’ Summers, the Test Pilot, took her up to 3,000 ft and had her back on the ground in 8 minutes later. But in that short time in the air, the prototype won him over.

 

“the handling qualities of this machine are remarkably good “,

 

he wrote in the Test-Flight Log.

 

Destiny awaited. Two days later, on March 7-1936, the troops of a resurgent Germany under Chancellor Adolf Hitler marched over the border to reclaim the Rhineland it had been forced to give up after losing the World War I.

 

The first steps had been taken towards the conflict for which, in every sense, the SPITFIRE was made.

 

It is difficult to overstate her impact on events. The Spitfire’s revolutionary design with its extra edge of speed and manoeuvrability stopped the German Messerschmitts in 1940 that until then had had no match in the skies over Europe.

 

But what these brave men -and many among the generations who had followed -never realised was that the Spitfire so nearly didn’t make it to the drawing board. In a desperate race against time, its brilliant creator Reg. Mitchell was fighting cancer as he put the finishing touches to his design for the aircraft.

 

He lived to see his creation make it into the skies -but died in 1937, two years before the outbreak of the war and never having seen the leanest, meanest fighting machine of its age in combat.

 

He was just 42 years old.

 

Reg Mitchell, or ‘R J’ as he was known is a name generally lost on all but air aficionados these days. So who was he?

 

A new book by his son, Gordon Mitchell, gives a glimpse into the life of this little-known engineering genius.

 

He was a son of a headmaster in Stoke and from his earliest days delighted in making things. He even built his own lathe. He left school at 16, became an apprentice in a railway engineering works and soon graduated to the drawing office.

 

Here his outstanding inventiveness quickly became apparent. Wanting to spread his wings, as it were, he applied for a job at the Supermarine Aviation in Southampton, a firm setting out in the infant business of seaplanes and flying boats.

 

RJ had stumbled on his life’s work and the outlet for his considerable talent.

He shot up the hierarchy until, just 25; he was Chief Designer and Chief Engineer with the job of creating the fastest seaplanes in the world.

 Time and again Mitchell’s planes were entered for the Schneider Trophy, an International Flying Contest over water. His success rate was remarkable as he learned how to streamline an aircraft to get every last knot of speed out of her.

 

In between the wars, with the help of the expert team he built at Supermarine, he designed no fewer than 24 different aircraft. A shy man with a slight stammer, he never pushed himself forward for the headlines his Schneider successes were increasingly grabbing.

 

He gave that glory to the pilots whom he admired for their courage, the more so when two died in accidents in his experimental planes.

 

But if reserved in public, he was a martinet in the office, typically standing staring at his drawing board for hours puffing on his pipe as he worked out complex problems. It was a foolish employee who interrupted him deep in thought.

 

At home, son Gordon remembered flashes of temper, followed by long moody silences. ‘He had no time for anyone he considered a fool and could be rude if the individual concerned did not quickly get the message.

 

Then again, he had great charm, his son recalled, and a sense of fun. When not preoccupied with work, his blue eyes shone and his smile was warm.

 

Mitchell was a very British genius, quiet, retiring, never personally pushy. Nor would he ever be rich, for all his exceptional talent and success.

 

At Supermarine (later part of Vickers), his pay as Chief Designer began at £1,200 a year rising by £100 every December until it reached £2,500.a handsome enough sum for those days and equivalent to £76,000 today.

 

Even after being appointed a Director, he would remain essentially a well-paid employee, in an era when results were not rewarded with share options and ‘fat cat’ bonuses. The patents for his inventions stayed with the company.

 

He brought a large detached house with peaceful gardens and a live in maid in the suburbs, played tennis and golf

And took family holidays at Bournemouth.

 

He was never one for the high life, despite the fast and wealthy international aviation set he sometimes dealt with. He preferred the company of his fellow workers, for whom he had great admiration. His best night out was with the lads at the drawing -room party.

 

His one indulgence was a Rolls Royce car, but since Sir Henry Royce was a fellow engineer and collaborator, that was not surprising.

But by 1933 Mitchell was harbouring a grim secret: He had been diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had a major operation and was fitted with a colostomy bag. Inventive man that he was, he even designed a better bag to conceal his disability.

 

A lesser man would have stopped work, but Mitchell was driven. By the mid-thirties, the world of peaceful international flying competitions began to change to one of more deadly and warlike rivalries. As a result, the Air Ministry in London sought tenders for a fast ‘killer’ fighter plane.

 

Mitchell’s first attempt was a flop. It had an open cockpit and a fixed undercarriage and could reach only 230 mph, 20mph short of the Ministry’s specification and a long way off his 400mph seaplanes.

 

Despite the terrible pain and distress of his illness, he stayed at his design desk as he smoothed out the Spitfire’s problems ahead of her first Test Flight.

 

In the next design, he retained just the name-

 

Spitfire

 

-suggested by the company’s chairman Sir Robert Mclean. It was what he called his feisty daughter, Ann.

 

Everything else changed. The shape of the wings went straight to elliptical. Against all conventional thinking, he also made the wings thin rather than thick. A sliding cockpit canopy gave the pilot al-round vision while reducing drag.

 

A Rolls Royce Merlin engine completed the transformation, and it was the prototype -K5054 - that flew that day 70 years ago.

 

Twelve weeks later, the RAF had its first go in the new fighter; Flight Lieutenant Humphrey Edwardes-Jones took her up at Martlesham Heath, the test aerodrome in Suffolk. He almost crashed her.

A revolutionary aspect of the

 Spitfire

-were wheels that retracted into the wings when in flight to make her more aerodynamic. As he came in to land he almost forgot to drop the undercarriage, and only just recovered in time.

His verdict, telephoned to the Air Ministry was that the Spitfire was

 

‘delightful to handle’

 

-and would be easy for the pilots to learn to fly-as long as they remembered to put the wheels down! Eight days later, the Ministry ordered 310 at a cost of £1.25 million (£38m at today’s prices.)

 

It was Mitchell’s triumph - and with that over, he turned his attention for designing a better, faster bomber for the RAF.

But he ran out of time. In February 1937, in exasperation, he told a visitor:

 

‘I who have so much to do, have only until June.’

 

The next month he finally stopped work.

 

Characteristically, he worried that he was letting people down by not being able to finish the job he had started. Letters from colleagues high and low assured him

 

he had done far more than most.

 

He made one last effort to live, flying by private plane to a cutting edge cancer clinic in Vienna. The treatment did not work.

 

After five weeks the doctors sent him home to die. He sat in his garden, often with the local vicar, and in June, the month he predicted, he died.

 

‘I just felt numb,’ his son, then aged 16, recalled, ‘but I could comprehend that at least he was no longer in pain’

 

Meanwhile, the Spitfire, one of the greatest single-seater fighters of all time was on its way into mass production. The first of more than 20,000 rolled of the production lines in 1938.

 

It would be another two years before it’s

With Hawker Hurricanes, the other British fighter plane, Spitfires soared over Southern England.

 

In the summer of 1940

-fought and won that crucial confrontation with the Luftwaffe.

 The Spitfires took on the enemy Messerschmitt fighters that protected the German bomber formations. The slower Hurricanes then moved in to down the defenceless bombers.

It was a joint victory, but in truth, it was the

 

SPITFIRE

 

-that made the crucial difference and for which

Reg Mitchell

 -remains a largely forgotten hero.

His son, now 85, feels certain his father’s death robbed Britain of yet more world-beating inventions. That bomber, the project he never finished was one example. He was designing it to fly at top speed of 360mph, 25 per cent faster than the Lancaster and the Wellington.

 

How much quicker might Bomber Command have got on top of the Luftwaffe, if its crews had been flying Reg Mitchell’s creation?

 

How much sooner might the war have been won?

 The greatest tragedy of Reg Mitchell’s death at such a sadly early age was that thousands of other lives that given the chance, he might also have saved.

  Let us get two points clear.

And there are vast opportunities out there if only we had the nerve to face outwards not inwards.  Fifty-two nations of the Commonwealth want to increase trade, so does the Anglo-sphere: Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.  New giants are emerging: Brazil, India, China that make the EU look pathetic.

 

We must turn back to the open oceans whence our properity came. 

That world is growing, the Brussels world is shrinking slowly dying

TEN years ago tonight, the BBC's Robert Preston broke the news that the Bank of England had been forced to step in to rescue Northern Rock from collapse, prompting endless queues to withdraw savings over the following days.

Though the authorities were slow to realise it, this was the first outward sign of

infecting the entire financial system.

Indeed, it marked the start of an epic crisis whose consequences we all suffer today.

With businesses driven to the wall and taxpayers stung for massive bailouts, the

PUBLIC FINANCES

were laid to waste.

Borrowing soared to terrifying heights- and

DEBT

is still rising in

2017

Towards an unimaginable

£2 TRILLION

£2TRILLION.

Meanwhile, household incomes have been painfully squeezed, while savers and pension funds have been hammered by a decade of historically low interest rates.

Yet ten years on, no banker has been jailed for the sharp practice that brought this contry to the brink of ruin.

Extraordinary, nor has there been a

FULL ENQUIRY.

to establish

the lessons of the

 CRISIS.

(though after the comparatively footling scandal of voicemail hacking by rogue redtops, the Coalition had no hesitation in ordering one into the conduct sand ethics of the newspaper industry.

What is  so deeply worrying is that, even now, none of those lessons appears to have been learned. Indeed, there are abundant signs that the cancer is back.

Meanwhile, the old racket of trading bundles of sub-prime debt continues as if nothing untoward happened in 2007.

Now , as then, the banks have far too little capital in reserve to weather a

The difference is that in 2017, with taxpayers milked dry, the Government will be unable to mount anything like a similar bailout

Finally, it’s sorted. Until yesterday, the anti-Brexiteers known as Remoaners had high hopes of Philip Hammond, the Chancellor.

But yesterday he appeared as joint author of a newspaper article with the most adamantine Brexiteer in the Cabinet, the International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox. The two supposed foes declared that in March 2019, Britain would not just be leaving the EU but also ‘we will leave the Customs Union and be free to negotiate the best trade deals around the world as an independent, open, trading nation’.

Although the Cabinet Brexiteers were content with Hammond’s proposal that there should be a transition period after March 2019, pending a final settlement of the country’s arrangements with the EU, the Chancellor had given the impression he was bending to the demands of the CBI that Britain remain within the Customs Union during that unspecified period.

Blunder

This they regarded as a fatal blunder — and not just because they suspected the CBI (which had campaigned for Britain to give up sterling for the euro) of seeking to keep the UK in the EU ‘by the back door’.

As Shanker Singham, chairman of the special trade commission of the Legatum Institute (a group consulted regularly by the Government), warned last week: ‘The UK must be able to provide the clarity of being outside the Customs Union on Day 1 of Brexit.

If such clarity does not exist, then other countries will not think the UK is serious about executing an independent trade policy and they will quickly lose patience and move on.’...

...In any case, the nation has not changed its collective mind since the referendum in June 2016. If anything, views have hardened in the direction set by the result. A survey of 3,293 people published on Friday by the London School of Economics showed that even those who had voted ‘Remain’ would prefer the sort of Brexit deal the LSE’s team described as ‘hard’.

A total of 51.3 per cent of Remain voters backed a Brexit deal which delivered ‘full control’ over immigration and led to lower numbers of migrants from the EU. No fewer than 54.7 per cent of Remainers said that the UK should ‘pay nothing’ to the EU by means of a ‘divorce bill’.

And 52.2 per cent of Remainers told the LSE researchers that we should entirely free British law from the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. Unsurprisingly, a still higher proportion of self-identifying ‘Leave’ voters supported what the LSE termed

In her own newspaper article yesterday, she lamented ‘a sense of resignation among most people who voted Remain that we have to “man up” and make the most of what we know will be a rotten Brexit’...

Most Remain voters now back a Brexit that gives Britain a clean break from the EU and control back of our borders, a major study has found.

Many of those who voted to stay in the European Union also now believe the country should only pay a small ‘divorce bill’ and stop EU judges ruling over the UK.

The results are a major boost for Theresa May’s Brexit stategy - and suggest diehard Remainers, such as Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable and former prime minister Tony Blair, have overestimated support for backtracking on Brexit.

THERESA May delighted Eurosceptics yesterday with an ambitious road map for BREXIT. The PM extended the hand of friendship to the EU but threatened to walk away if BRUSSELS tried to impose a punitive deal. Jack DOYLE sets out her 12 objectives and analyses her chances of success.

1. CERTAINTY

 WHAT SHE SAID

We will provide certainty where we can. The same rules and laws will apply on the day after BREXIT, as they did before. And the Government will put the final deal to a vote in both houses of Parliament.

CAN SHE DELIVER

By keeping in place-at least initially-all EU laws, Mrs May will provide a degree of continuity and confidence for business. However, as she freely admits she cannot control the outcome of the negotiations. Parliament is highly likely to approve any deal because the alternative will be a chaotic BREXIT.

Of these , this newspaper will not waste ink on cursing SNP members, whose fantasies of SCOTLAND as an independent EU nation state gave them a spurious excuse for defying the UK majority.

AS for the rest, no criticism is too harsh for those Labour MPs who represent solidly Brexiteer constituencies, but voted to

that its Editor should go lest this newspaper's pro-Leave sentiments de-rail the Prime Minister's  ambition for Britain to stay in the EU...

But  let us not get too tangled up with the personalities involved.  It is surely deeply troubling that any British prime minister should scheme to remove an editor with whom he disagrees. In Turkey, President Erdogan, will send his heavies to a newspaper office, or he will arrest editors and journalists he doesn't like. That's what happens in many countries we like to think of as crude or uncivilised , including

RUSSIA and CHINA.

We imagine things are done differently here, but isn't it really a question of style? David Cameron is smooth and sleek and has good manners-not a risible thug such as Erdogan or Putin who will send in the bully-boys.

The war drums are beating as the testosterone laden Year of the Cock (Rooster) begins and the boys get ready to show who is biggest and baddest. The biggest warnings are coming from China, which has seen many of its “red lines” crossed, at least verbally, by the macho-laden administration of US President Donald Trump. The fireworks could begin after February 5th as the Chinese New Year’s holidays wind down, Chinese intelligence and secret society sources say. As the Chinese have warned, if they make a move it will be “unexpected and worse than you can imagine.”

The Trump administration, meanwhile has been too preoccupied with redrawing the maps of the Middle East and dealing with ongoing power struggle in the West to fully appreciate what will happen if China makes a military move.

Before getting back to what China could do, let us take a look at the new Middle East that is being created by the Trump administration acting in unison with Russia. What we see is the region being divided into three spheres of influence. One is Turkey with expanded zones of influence penetrating Syria and Iraq. The other is the Persian (Iranian) empire now extending into Iraq, central Syria and Lebanon. The third is the Arab zone, including Egypt, the Gulf States, Sunni parts of Iraq, Jordan and Israel. Militarily the Russians and Americans have divided their spheres of influence with Russia to the East of the Euphrates and the US to the West.  As many seasoned observers have noted, Trump has promised to destroy ISIS within a month even as he promises undivided support to Israel, the main sponsor of ISIS. What is really happening is that the Saudi monarchy is going to take on the fundamentalist Wahab clergy (who they secretly hate) while the Israelis will deal with fundamentalist Zionist fanatics, which are two sides of the same ISIS coin. The reward for doing this will be survival for the gulf monarchies and new pipeline routes for their gas exports to Europe via Israel and Turkey. 

For the Trump regime, fixing the Middle East will be the easy part. Trump has announced he also plans to take on the hard part, dealing with the Federal Reserve Board, by hanging of portrait of Rothschild (Fed) nemesis Andrew Jackson in the White House, Pentagon sources note. This is not something the US military government will be able to solve merely by marching into Fed headquarters and rounding up central bankers or even by bumping off members of the Rothschild family. It will rather involve dealing with China.

Yes, there are respectable arguments to be made against his order and the way it has been implemented. AS nobody can deny. It has thrown airports into chaos and caused acute inconvenience, uncertainty and distress to many travellers who pose no threat whatever to America.

But it is blatantly false to suggest that this is a racist measure, directed against all followers of the

to travel to the U.S.

Constitutional Principles of Power and Remedy.

The Constitution is specifically intended, indeed designed to limit the powers of the state with respect to the people. The Constitution sets a standard upon which the performance of governance may be measured and contested and to provide remedy if abused.

The whole constitution originates its authority from

COMMON LAW

Supremacy resides in the

LAW and PEOPLE

NOT THE

CROWN or PARLIAMENT.

It is a matter of constitutional principle and legal fact that,

THE LAW IS SUPREME

The rule of law is the antithesis of arbitrary power. Integral with this, is the system of jury trial. It places the power of law enforcement in the

HANDS of the PEOPLE.

This the most vital safeguard against DESPOTISM.

The English Constitution's function is to

PROTECT the

"RIGHTS and LIBERTIES

 of ENGLISHMEN".

These are the 'BIRTHRIGHT' of the PEOPLE'

[In 2016 one can see how successive governments have by gradualism watered down these rights with even attempts to replace jury trial by trial by judge only on the grounds of speed and saving resources. The people in the main have been, amiss in not being vigilant to the protection of THEIR CONSTITUTION. The fundamental rights and liberties are listed in the preamble of the Coronation Oath Act of 1688 which declares that  the oath is taken for the purpose of

It is a contract with the people which makes it the permanent duty of the CROWN, and the CROWN in both GOVERNMENT and PARLIAMENT.

This contracts the Monarch to govern only according to the STATUTE, COMMON LAW, and the CUSTOM and to 'CAUSE LAW and JUSTICE with MERCY to be used in all JUDGEMENTS'.

All power of governance is vested in the CROWN.

The two Houses of Parliament may upon their concurrence offer bills for ROYAL ASSENT.

A BILL is not ENACTED until it has been authorised by the SOVEREIGN POWER.

Whilst the enacting power (a royal prerogative) of Royal Assent is entirely vested with the monarch it is contracted ONLY TO BE USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONSTITUTIONAL LAW.  This is a limitation and essential safeguard to protect the people from any over mighty governance  [such as Tony Blair's and Gordon Brown's NEW LABOUR and since DAVE'S PARTY]

 It was used  to defeat the Divine Right of Kings; a claim of absolute power by the Stuart monarchs.  The OATH ascertains the SUPREMACY of the LAW, not the supremacy of CROWN or of PARLIAMENT.

There is certainly no Divine Right of Politicians.

The Coronation contract is of the Crown owing allegiance to the Constitution. The PEOPLE give ALLEGIANCE to the CROWN.

Here is a system of mutual protection for there is a constitutional interdependence.

The MAGNA CARTA

made provision for the PEOPLE to use ANY MEANS including FORCE if the CROWN is found to be in BREACH.

THE RIGHT OF RESISTANCE IS THE ULTIMATE REMEDY...

That which constitutionally binds the Monarch is a restriction upon Her Majesty, Her Government and all Parliamentary power.  The Monarch may do no wrong, but should she refuse by her negative power( the right to withhold assent) to

'LET WRONG BE DONE.'

[Millions of patriots have been waiting over four decades for:-

'Right to be Done!']

Sir William Blackstone confirms this. Whilst the monarch accepts the advice of ministers, they must only advise to do that which COMPLIES with the CONSTITUTION.  Plainly NO MONARCH is FREE to ASSENT to ADVICE that CONFLICTS with the CONSTITUTION in FORCE.

There is no authority in Parliament to pass any power of governance in England to those who hold or owe no allegiance. [such as the EU]

 There is no constitutional authority for Parliament to deliberately breach the constitutional laws by new   conflicting enactment.

 There is a natural duty resulting from the logic of our constitutional law to debate and resolve conflicts, if necessary by prior repeal.

 We must put an end to this form of 'legal' abuse, particularly through the misapplication of party politics.

 Most but not all of our constitution is written:- the Magna Carta, the Petition of Rights, the Declaration of Rights, the Bill of Rights, the Act of Settlement and the Acts of Union etc. It has evolved over centuries with the expenditure of much blood. It has been abused and corrected many times. It was finally settled by the Glorious Revolution of 1688/9.

The Judicial function is to be the independent arbiter between party and party or party and government under the terms of our constitutional law.  The courts are bound to declare upon the constitutionality of an Act where it may prove to be an action of unconstitutional governance. The great examples of the Magna Carta, the Petition 1628, the Declaration & the Bill of Rights 1688/9 make this duty of the court utterly plain.

Judgement may only be given in accordance with the constraints of constitutional laws in force.  At all times the presumption of law and justice in mercy be upheld and used  in all judgements. This is the trust sand the pre-eminent public policy reposed in the judiciary.

The right of petition to the Monarch is an appeal direct to the source of power, the Monarch is under OATH and at LAW, bound to provide REMEDY. Where there are RIGHTS there are REMEDIES. Politicians and Parliament must abide by the terms of reference and DUTY to the CONSTITUTION.

A fixed and certain standard with protection and remedy are the true purpose of the Constitution.

WE MUST RECLAIM OUR CONSTITUTION AND THE RULE OF LAW FROM THE SUPPOSED DIVINE RIGHT OF OUR POLITICIANS.

THE BUDGET FOR THE EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION WAS $5.0 BILLION

 

An account held by Credit Suisse in Zurich, labelled the ‘SBC’ Charcol Account, held a total of some $470 billion when last reviewed by sources.  These funds were originally derived from Nazi funds and assets, are routinely used to pay top politicians and officials to sign successive European Collective treaties- the latest being the so-called ‘European Constitution’.

The budget set aside from the ‘SBC’Charcol Account and to be distributed from the Credit Suisse disbursement account for the latest ‘update’ of the ‘rolling  European Collective Treaty’ was $5.0billion- $2.5 billion being payable in Euros to the participants from the 25 EU countries.

On the finalisation of the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC), which framed the text of the Treaty, and a further $2.5 billion payable in Euros on ratification.  This tranche is currently the subject of much dissension.

For each national cadre of key negotiator, therefore, the total set aside  was $100 million per tranche.  The chief negotiators of each EU country, plus selected officials were each to be paid from the national pot of $ 100 million, whish equates to roughly $75 million per corrupted European Union country.

Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, was allegedly initially offered $50 million.  being an extremely wealthy man, he departed for the weekend in question in July 2004, following conclusion of the IGC, having indicated to those concerned that he was insulted by such a figure, and that $100million would be nearer the mark.  In the event, following an allowance for his wife, he was allegedly paid $75 million, according to sources.

Tony Blair allegedly received $75 million, which was paid into an offshore bank account held in Belize, the former British Honduras.  There, official eyebrows were naturally raised at the Central bank of Belize, where we notice that all of a sudden, the official reserves of foreign exchange jumped from $49.72 million in February 2005, to $164.53 million in March [2005]

Since the corrupt payment ‘due’ at the completion of the IGC will have been remitted in or about July 2004, this may suggest that the funds have subsequently (in March 2005) been taken into the foreign exchange reserves of the local central bank, so that their actual ownership can be disguised, a ‘new form’ of money-laundering: through a central bank!

 

WE ARE RELIABLY ADVISED THAT THIS CORRUPT PAYOLA SYSTEM IS THE NORM.

 

This means that the European Union’s Treaties

 are null and void,

as they have been obtained by fraud.

THE VIENNA TREATY CONVENTION

Under the 1969 Vienna Convention on the

Law of Treaties

there are two key provisions which authorize a signatory power to abrogate a bilateral or multilateral treaty unilaterally, without giving the stipulated notice:

WHERE corruption has been demonstrated in respect of procuring the

TREATY

in the first place, or in respect of any dimension of its implementation.

AS the next section will show, the European Commission (EC) permits and is associated with corruption on a monumental scale, which the EU authorities have tried to cover up with declining success.

A material change of circumstances has surfaced into daylight, to begin with, following the death of Sir Edward Heath.
