Free trade with the EU is
already available to 22 non-EU countries (including a NAFTA member -Mexico)
The
EU is negotiating FTAs with another 69 countries.
If
they all come off, the EU will have FTAs with 91 countries (roughly half of all
countries in the world)

For those who are worried about a withdrawal of Britain
from the EU the above statistics clearly show that a country like Britain would
be able to negotiate very favourable terms with the EU because of its size and
trading record.
As
we have already stated elsewhere an ‘old’ Commonwealth Free Trade Block
would be particularly attractive to the UK because of its past record
and in the main we would be trading with our kith and kin and friends from
the Commonwealth countries who have not hesitated in the past to assist
each other as we have ourselves experienced-as is expected from close friends.
The
present demand by France and Germany and others in the EU for us to give up our
rebate is a classic example of what it means to be connected to the EU as a
member state. As an outsider dealing
with the EU - with our size and world interests we would for the first time in
32 years be able to demand a fair hearing and for once a fair trade agreement.
But
our negotiators should not have previously dealt with the EU for who could
trust those same individuals who are so fond of giving everything away without
any thought for the interests of their own country.
