Why Parliamentary Reform will give a voice to
the people
* THE
BATTLE WE ALL NOW HAVE TO FIGHT- IS TO DEMAND A CHANGE IN THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM
WHICH HAS DENIED MANY VOTERS THEIR RIGHT TO HAVE A VOICE IN THEIR
PARLIAMENT IN WESTMINSTER. We call on all voters of ALL political parts of the
spectrum who value TRUE DEMOCRACY to join us to fight for a change to
the present unjust electoral system in favour of a PR System as at
present used in Scotland and in many other countries in the World. As
stated in an article in the Daily Mail on Thursday, June 9, 2005 under the heading: A SENSE OF PROPORTION In answer to the Question;
Had the General Election been fought under the proportional representation (PR) system proposed by the Liberal Democrats, how would the Commons look now? … Had everyone voted as
they did on May 5th, 2005, a pure PR system (as is used in
Israel) would have given 227 seats to Labour (instead of 355),
209 to Conservatives (instead of 197), 142 to
the Liberal Democrats (instead of 62) and 68 to
others, including 15 to UKIP
and six to the Greens. The system proposed by
the Liberal Democrats, backed by the Electoral Reform Society is
the Single Transferable Vote (STV), as used in Australia and Ireland-and
being introduced for council elections in Scotland. Voters rank candidates in
order of preference and between three and five MPs are elected in each
constituency. Larger constituencies
would mean there is no overall increase in the number of MPs. This gives voters the
choice between candidates of the same
party as well as between parties. It means that there are no ‘safe
seats’ and no need of tactical voting. It
maintains a constituency link and would
mean the vast majority of voters having an MP from THEIR favourite
party. Single Transferable Vote allows voters so much
choice that its difficult to predict the precise make-up of the Commons, had it
been used on May 5, 2005. Our best estimate is that
we would have seen about 245 Labour MPs, 214 Conservatives, 145 liberal
democrats and 42 others. There would
probably be several UKIP MPs and a small number of Greens. [We have
no doubt that if the PR (STV) system had been in operation on May 5, 2005 that many
more of the 2,600,000 voters who voted UKIP in The European Election in 2004
would have done so in the General Election for the obvious reason they would
know that their party would get seats and that the
exact number depended on the
numbers who voted. -not as we have experienced under the present excuse for
Democracy. After all we do not live in Iraq
but in Blairland.] To continue: Any
broadly proportional system would not have produced an overall majority in the
Commons for any party after last month’s vote. But,
considering that Labour won only 36 per cent of the votes cast, it can be
reasonably suggested that no party deserves such a majority At about
21 per cent of the entire electorate, this is the lowest vote for a winning
party EVER! Most
countries, which use PR, have stable coalition governments where the best parts
of each party’s manifesto are put together to form a programme for government. The Scottish Parliament, elected by PR system, has had a
stable coalition government since it was created in 1999. Alex Folkes London.

The PEOPLE of GREAT BRITAIN should be allowed the option of opting out of the EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP if they so wish. The GOVERNMENT will then be able to provide those who have opted out with BRITISH DOCUMENTATION -only such as British (not EU) passports, driving licences and other national documents. EU laws will also NOT APPLY to those who HAVE OPTED OUT OF EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP
