Reveals the facts behind the

Prime Minister’s

Conference bluster

 

 

IF YOU took Tony Blair’s SPEECH yesterday at FACE VALUE he would be the greatest peacetime Prime Minister this country has ever had, and we’d all be begging him to STAY ON.

 

BUT

 

 

AS SO OFTEN with NEW LABOUR, there was a yawning gap between RHETERIC and REALITY.

BLAIR’S - RHETERIC:

 

‘Take Immigration. WE know we need strict controls. They are being put in place, along with Identity Cards.’

REALITY:

 

We don’t know how many of those lost asylum cases have yet to be removed from the country (estimate 300,000).

 

We don’t know how many illegal immigrants there are in Britain (estimate 870,000), and we have no system for checking whether people arriving here ever leave or not.

 

As for Identity Cards, they don’t come in until 2008, and then they’ll be voluntary.

BLAIR’S - RHETERIC:

 

‘We reformed University Funding so they had the resources to keep up with the world’s best.’

 

REALITY:

 

Tuition Fees -a tax on the middle classes -will cost students £3000 a year, but Universities are still chronically short of cash, a third of students at some Institutions don’t finish their courses, and a higher proportion of State school pupils in Higher Education is failing.

BLAIR’S - RHETERIC:

 

 

‘We will get more people off benefit and into work.’

 

*

 

REALITY:

 

The Welfare Bill has risen under Labour from £92 billion to £137 billion while the proportion of Britons receiving means-tested benefits has risen from 26 per cent to 40 per cent.

BLAIR.S - RHETERIC:

 

‘ Lets be frank about why there are so many people on incapacity benefit - under the Tories, it was used to conceal unemployment. We will publish proposals to reform the benefit.’

REALITY:

 

The number of 25s on incapacity benefit has risen by 60 per cent under New Labour to 160,000. And the new plans almost certainly won’t affect the £2.7 million currently drawing the benefit at a cost of £7,7 billion a year, even though up to two-thirds of them are thought fit enough for work.

BLAIR’S - RHETERIC:

 

‘ In Transport, we will continue to develop proposals for a fundamental change in funding, including road pricing.’

REALITY:

 

British drivers pay over £42 billion a year to the Government in taxes, including some of the highest fuel duties in the world, while Ministers spend ONLY £6.7 billion on roads. Now Mr Blair has thought of a way to tighten the screw even tighter on car drivers -pay as you go.

BLAIR’S - RHETERIC:

 

‘Next year too we will address the future of Local Government.’

 

*

 

REALITY:

 

Only last week the Government ducked the opportunity to tackle Local Government Reform postponing a planned Council Tax Revaluation because it would have been unpopular but with no idea what to do instead.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘Over the Parliament our aim is to increase home ownership by one million.’

 

*

 

REALITY:

 

Labour cut the discounts available to Council Tenants hoping to purchase their own homes from £50,000 to £16,000. And when Alan Milburn suggested extending the Right to Buy Scheme to 700,000 Housing Association Tenants during the last Election, he was sat upon and the proposal was dropped.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

‘City Academies are massively over subscribed. FACT.’

 

*

 

REALITY:

 

Academies cost the TAX PAYER twice as much as ordinary schools to set up, many languish at the bottom of the League Tables, and others have been taken OVER BY religious Zealots.

 

Their Truancy Rate is twice that of normal schools.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘The NHS Reforms must continue. Money alone won’t work.’

 

*

 

REALITY:

 

The number of Bureaucrats in the Health Service is growing at three times the rate of Front Line Staff (and now cost the TAX PAYER £16 billion a year); we have one of the worst cancer survival rates in Europe; Gordon Brown has ruled out allowing the Private Sector a significant role in the provision of Health Care; and NHS productivity has been falling steadily since 1997.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘Crime overall is down.’

REALITY:

 

For the first time in history, more than a million people a year are VICTIMS of VIOLENT CRIME, a fourfold increase since the Labour came to power. And last year CRIME cost Britain a record £36 billion - more than we spend on DEFENCE.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘For eight years I have battered the Criminal Justice System to get it to change’

REALITY:

 

Mr Blair was personally responsible for introducing the [1998] Human Rights Act, which has damaged our Criminal Justice System more than any other factor.

 

It has politicised the Judiciary, enriched lawyers such as Cherie Blair, emasculated Parliament and passed final decisions about Justice to a group of dubious Foreign Judges at the European Court of Human Rights.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

(WE MUST) give our young people places to go so that they’re off the street. (THAT MEANS) more competitive sport.

REALITY:

 

New Labour has promised at least six times to put competitive sport at the heart of the curriculum.

 

BUT this GOVERNMENT has concreted over playing fields at the astonishing rate of one every day, and half of six-year -olds are not getting the recommended two hours PE each week.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘The roots of this (loss of RESPECT) are deep and partly formed by the break-up of traditional communities and Family structure.

REALITY:

 

One of the first things Labour did was to scrap the married couples’ TAX ALLOWANCE. The Civitas think-tank recently revealed that parents receive £4000 more in handouts per year if they split up.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

 

‘No Government but a Labour one would have introduced the New Deal and given one million young people the chance of a decent job.’

REALITY:

 

The National Audit Office found most of those who got jobs through the New Deal would have found employment anyway because of economic growth.

BLAIR’S - RHETORIC:

‘Only a Labour Government would have made SURE START (the Government’s flagship plan to provide pre-school children with Health Care, Health and Education) a vital part of some of the poorest communities in the country.’

REALITY:

 

Sure Start has cost £3 billion but produced no improvement at all in children’s language or behaviour.

 

*

 

 

 

[In the eyes of many in Britain and across the world the appearance of the sycophant attitude to a discredited Prime Minister at the Labour Conference in allowing a War-monger and destroyer of our Constitution and virtual Dictator to choose his own time of departure proves to our enemies that so-called Democracy under Tony Blair is a mirage for hiding nothing else but a blatant desire for Power.

 

Those at the Conference who accepted his explanation and made no call for his resignation knowing fully as the majority of people in this country of his crimes must realise that their acceptance places them along side their leader with equal responsibility.

 

Not only have they showed that they are not listening to the millions of people who marched and are still marching against the Iraq War but they have further endorsed the past actions of a man who’s promises which have been shown to be downright unreliable at the least and downright untrustworthy at the extreme.

 

The sooner a man of proven Integrity takes the helm of the Party the sooner we hope the return to Responsible Government which has been sadly lacking these past eight years.

 

The talk of not rocking the boat and maintaining a united party are excuses used by those who fear to lose their lucrative jobs and influence and the longer it takes for MP’s to act will further prove to the voter at large that their opinion of politicians had been proved right.

 

With the words of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII in mind we wish our Prime Minister to say:

Tha latest news from the Labour Conference on Wednesday the 29^th September 2005 of the forceful ejection of a frail 82-year-old activist from the Conference Hall - familiar with Nazi oppression in World War II having lost a relative at Auschwitz- because he had the effrontery to make a protest at the lame explanation from our MAN of STRAW of why our troops could not leave Iraq.

 

WE consider his comment of the measured response NONSENSE -hardly a matter for being treated as a suspect under the Terrorism Act in order to prevent him being readmitted to the Hall, after he had received an apology from the Labour Party chairman.

 

In support of the MAN of PRINCIPLE Mr Walter Wolfgang and his close fellow supporter Steve Forrest - constitutency chairman from Erith and we hope many others who spoke our for Freedom of Speech - we quote the words of one of our greatest poets Milton:

Well! Mr Wolfgang and Mr Forrest certainly experienced the dust and the heat of ejection and we hope their brave stance will become an example to follow in their party.
