SUPPORT for SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE is HIGHER in ENGLAND than SCOTLAND?

week would be
ENGLISH NATIONALISM

TOMORROW, [ May 1-2007] it will be 300
years to the day since
ENGLAND and SCOTLAND
-signed the
Act of Union
-the historic merger between two
nations from which the
UNITED KINGDOM
-came into being.
Two days later, that
UNION
-and the
UNITED KINGDOM
ITSELF
-may be served notice of its imminent
demise.
From the start, there were warnings
that devolution would set the UK on an inexorable path to its own
break-up - particularly in
SCOTLAND
where nationalist passions were
grounded in an already separate legal and administrative system. Such
concerns were roundly dismissed. On the contrary, ministers said,
devolution would kill any push for
INDEPENDENCE
STONE DEAD!
This week we may see that glib
assumption finally blow up in the
GOVERNMENT'S
FACE
If the opinion polls are to be believed
the
SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY
-which is committed to
INDEPENDENCE FOR SCOTLAND
-stands to become the largest party in
the
SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
-and its leader,
Alex Salmond
Scotland's First Minister.
Revulsion
If this does happen, it will not be
because the Scots are voting for independence but because of a terminal
revulsion against the Labour Government [ironically a Scottish Cabal] at
WESTMINSTER
-over a range of issues from the
IRAQ WAR
To
CASH for PEERAGES
To
TRIDENT
On all this dissatisfaction, Alex
Salmond has capitalised with great shrewdness.
Playing up Labour's alleged crimes, he
has at the same time played down fears associated with the proposed
rupture with
ENGLAND
He has promised a referendum on
INDEPENDENCE
-and scaled down his rhetoric from
bellicose Anglophobia to declaring that an
Independent Scotland
-would be
ENGLAND'S
'GREATEST FRIEND'
He has even suggested that an
Independent Scotland
-would remain a loyal subject of the
ENGLISH CROWN
Some might find such touching effusions
simply incredible; but the fact remains that Mr Salmond has skilfully
transformed his image from
BRAVE HEART WARRIOR
to
-emollient Statesman.
As a result, although opinion polls
suggest that fewer that one third of Scottish voters want an independent
Scotland, they may now regard Mr Salmond as a safe enough repository for
a
PROTEST VOTE
-to put him into office as their
country's
FIRST MINISTER.
Of, course, this may not happen. But if
it does, the potential implications for British politics are seismic.
Labour will lose not just Scottish
Executive seats but its national power base. For its strength as a
national political party derives from its representation in
SCOTLAND
-where the vast majority of MPs are
LABOUR.
Gordon Brown, meanwhile, will have lost
the country which has been regarded as his personal fiefdom and where so
many of his placemen have been put into
POSITIONS OF POWER
-if he can't even win in his own
backyard, his party will be asking
HOW IS HE GOING TO WIN IN THE REST
OF THE COUNTRY?
At the very moment he finally comes
into his longed-for
INHERITANCE
-at
WESTMINSTER
he will lose the basis of his
POLITICAL POWER
Indeed, the fact that he is so
determined above all else to become
PRIME MINISTER
in the
ENGLISH PARLIAMENT
-has confirmed many Scots in their
opinion
THAT HE HAS BETRAYED HIS ORIGINS.
Worse still, such a result would bring
an uncomfortable anomaly into potentially lethal focus.
To have Scottish MPs voting on
policies in
ENGLAND
-while English MPS can no longer
vote on policies for
SCOTLAND
(as is currently the case in many areas
of legislation)
-is a
CONSTITUTIONAL OUTRAGE
-
Labour MP Tam Dalyell
first posed it as
Devolution's
'West Lothian question'
To have a Scot, elected by a
Scottish constituency, as
PRIME MINISTER
in the
ENGLISH PARLIAMENT
-while the SNP is in power in
SCOTLAND
-on a platform of
NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE
-will propel this unresolved
conundrum to the top of the political agenda.
Prime Minister Brown will be seen as
floating in the political firmament without visible means of support
- the tartan grin on the face of the disappearing
British Cheshire Cat.

Catastrophe
It will also put rocket fuel behind the
movement for
Scottish Independence
The canny Mr Salmond will magnify every possible Scottish
disadvantage and grievance, putting Prime Minister Brown on the back
foot at every opportunity. And if Scotland did eventually vote for
INDEPENDENCE
-that would simply spell the end
of Labour's prospects of
EVER
FORMING ANOTHER GOVERNMENT.
The Tories, however have always refused to regard
Scottish Independence
as the key to political heaven on the grounds that the
break-up of the UK would be catastrophic.
BUT WOULD IT?

[Certainly now after the reign of the Tartan Cabal
over the last ten years. We would be eternally grateful to the Scottish
people if they put that rogue band of disreputable unprincipled war
mongers and destroyers of the
ENGLISH CONSTITUTION
SOMEWHERE REMOTE!
Maybe Mr Putin will be of help in the
matter?]
Over five centuries ago the Crown had
discovered that parliament could be used as a revolutionary engine of
despotic authority under constitutional forms and so it has been under
the Blairite rule with their Orders in Council and disregard for
the expected integrity of the high offices of Prime Minister -
Chancellor and Attorney General -all of which have been
shamelessly polluted beyond recognition over the past ten years.
At least with the Tudors they were champions of their
country's FREEDOM and it was only the Stuarts particularly Charles I and
James II who sold their country to France . Over the past ten years King
Tony has been selling OUR COUNTRY to a FOREIGN POWER instead of
protecting OUR CONSTITUTION he has been DESTROYING IT.
What ever fault can be found of the Russian leader Putin
he is passionate about his defence of his people and country. For that
he can be forgiven much. He had every right to execute his traitors but
to do so in England was a great mistake as one day he may need
protection in our country for what ever reason. Treason in England is no
longer an offence as far as the numerous traitors who have over 50 years
been plotting to give away our country to a
FOREIGN POWER.
The big mistake of New Labour
was in the words of eminent 20th century constitutional
researcher G.W.Prothero
'Their fault lay in abusing these rights, in supporting
the abuse by straining the law and perverting custom, and in ignoring
the fact that rights, so abused and so defended, cannot be maintained.
Thus ,instead of leading a gradual and peaceful evolution they hurried
on a violent collision, which, from the very nature of their power as
explained above, could not but be fatal to them

In conclusion the Executive failed to

The economics are complicated, but a split is unlikely to
be to Scotland's advantage. It would lose its massive subsidy from the
English Taxpayer.
North Sea oil is likely to be less to its advantage than
it thinks since -apart from the fact that oil revenues are declining - a
significant chunk of the North Sea lies off the coast of England and
would therefore be deemed to be
ENGLAND'S OIL
-in International Law.
And Scotland is unlikely to become a Celtic tiger economy
given its chronic culture of welfarism and the top-heavy public sector.
As Scotland's taxes would inevitably rise, English taxes would fall,
leaving many individuals and businesses significantly better off.

Mr Salmond said yesterday that an
INDEPENDENT SCOTLAND
could always subsequently change its
mind and vote to rejoin the UK.
[Well! if Scotland became Independent
then their would be
NO
UNITED KINGDOM
AND
ENGLAND
would have its
ENGLISH PARLIAMENT
AT
WESTMINSTER.

This presupposes England would want Scotland back.
WHY EVER SHOULD IT?
[Because the safety of the whole
island depends on mutual agreement
ON
DEFENCE and FOREIGN AFFAIRS.]

Many in England would breath a sign of relief to be rid
of such grasping resentment and outright anti-English hatred.
It is true that Britain's power in the world was created
by harnessing the genius of the two nations which between them produced
the
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
AND RAN THE
BRITISH EMPIRE
But within Britain, England was always the dominant
cultural force.
Disaffection
British culture has always been dominated by the
ENGLISH LANGUAGE
and
ENGLISH PROTESTANTISM
or
ANGLICANISM
It was the
ENGLISH COMMON LAW
which created
LIBERTY and DEMOCRACY
based in the
ENGLISH PARLIAMENT
-indeed
England's sense of its own destiny to civilise the world
dates back more than 1000 years.
Englishness has always been understated. But if Scotland
sets itself on the road to
INDEPENDENCE
-this will almost certainly give an enormous boost to
ENGLISH NATIONALISM
[ENGLISH PATRIOTISM]
It will stop being a fringe movement associated with
jingoism and Colonel Blimp and will take on instead the force of
historically inevitability.
This is already happening. An opinion poll at the weekend
suggested that support for
SCOTTISH INDEPENDENT
was now actually higher in
ENGLAND
than in
SCOTLAND
The fact is that the fires of
ENGLISH NATIONALISM
[ENGLISH INDEPENDENCE]
have already been lit - by the progressive undermining of
BRITISH VALUES
[ENGLISH VALUES]
by
-'ever closer'
UNION
with
EUROPE
[EUROPEAN UNION]
and by
DEVOLUTION

The refusal by the mainstream parties
to acknowledge this strength of feeling has caused a mass disaffection
with
POLITICS
The result is the potential rise of
extremist fringe parties which have realised they have to make it safe
for people to
VOTE FOR THEM
Its not just the SNP which has had such
a makeover - across the border the
BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY
-has tried to disguise its racism
and its thuggish past in order to present itself as a respectable
NATIONALIST PARTY
Dismayingly, it too may score
considerable success this week.
The SNP and the BNP may not have much
in common, but they are both capitalising on the politics of
NATIONALISM
[One who favours or strives after
UNITY
INDEPENDENCE
INTERESTS
or
DOMINATION of a
NATION.]
THEY ARE A PRODUCT OF A POLITICAL
SYSTEM WHICH HAS FAILED.
THIS NATION IS ENTERING UNCHARTED
WATERS.

thrust upon the people without their consent -and in many cases
knowledge.
