Blair's last treacherous act. The 64,000 euro question is what will Gordon Brown do? * Even by the EU's squalid standards, this treaty plumbs new depths of MENDACITY. What is at stake is DEMOCRACY ITSELF. * THE Melanie Phillips COLUMN
[Daily Mail -June-2007] Well, what an amazing surprise. Tony Blair is reported to have protected all his 'red lines' - at the Brussels Summit. Gordon Brown, who previously promised that he would call a referendum if Britain's interests were threatened by the new constitutional treaty now says we don't need a referendum after all because of Mr Bliar's negotiating genius. So apparently we can relax. St.Tony has strangled the EU dragon with his bare hands before striding out of Downing Street into the sunset. The threat to our power of self-government has been seen off. BRITAIN HAS BEEN SAVED Oh please. pull the other one, its got euro-bells on it. The plain fact is that, true to type, the EU set out top smuggle in a constitution by stealth - and it is now brazenly doing precisely THAT.
Surrender Even by its own ruthless standards, the scale of the intended deceit and the rail-roading of its own procedures to ensure that it gets away with it -are truly breathtaking. What actually happened in last Saturday's pre-dawn diplomatic brawl in Brussels was that Mr Blair's 'red lines turned into the colour of fudge and then faded from sight altogether. The supposed safeguards he secured on the core issues of foreign policy, the CHARTER OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS --economic policy and criminal justice are simply NOT WORTH THE PAPER THEY ARE WRITTEN ON. For the new treaty doesn't just extend the EU's powers. It turns it into a constitutional freak, a bureaucratic Frankenstein's monster without a thread of democratic legitimacy, which will destroy what remains of our powers of self-government and make Mr Blair's apparent 'opt-outs' absurdly irrelevant. For example, the EU is now to have it's own FOREIGN MINISTER The fact that this panjandrum will be called the EU's 'high representative' -which sounds like something straight out of Gilbert and Sullivan, does not detract from his power -which is to head a diplomatic service with ambassadors world-wide in pursuit of EU foreign policy. What's more, member states will be forced to support that policy 'actively and unreservedly' - and will be barred from launching military strikes or declaring war that might be thought to damage EU's standing. In other words, we would be forbidden from defending our own interests [Falklands or assisting any other friendly nations-particularly our own kith -and - kin in the other English -speaking nations of the world.] and would be forced instead to do whatever the EU collectively decides. [In other words what suits the German/French engine. ]
Downing Street claims that an annex to the treaty it has secured means this will not happen. But since this annex is a 'DECLARATION' rather than a legally binding 'protocol', it would seem that it is the equivalent of a white handkerchief at Trafalgar. Similarly, the supposed exemption Mr Bliar secured from the CHARTER OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS -has been described by one legal expert as NONSENSE! -and is highly unlikely to survive a European legal challenge. Just as devastatingly Mr Bliar has surrendered Britain's power to block a EUROPEAN POLICE FORCE. and PUBLIC PROSECUTOR and the EUROPEAN COURT OF JUSTICE -will get enhanced powers to tell us how to run our justice system and determine our IMMIGRATION POLICY [We have to ask what 'red lines' had Tony Bliar in mind -possibly the intended future red wheals on the backs of those who have no intention whatsoever to succumb to their 'Big Brother' intentions.] Mr Bliar has, in fact, surrendered our VETO -in at least 40 areas of policy -including:
ENERGY DEFENCE ANNUAL BUDGET [The purse strings of our once free nation state handed to a FOREIGN POWER] If a nation cannot take the foreign policy measures needed to defend itself, if it can no longer decide to whom it will grant the right of citizenship, or exercise its own historic values of LAW JUSTICE or LIBERTY IT IS NO LONGER AN INDEPENDENT NATION STATE AT ALL.
[We and many other thousands of fellow citizens have been warning of this evil coming for over 35 years but the people were occupied with their own lives and to be frank many could not care less. Only recently has there been an eventual awaking of the people to the threat to their very way of life and custom and the realisation that we would all be the losers by letting such a traitorous act be laid at our door by future generations of our failure to protect that which to past generations was more valuable than life itself. It is an inheritance that we must pass on intact to future generations. Over the past two hundred years millions of our forebears gave their lives for their country and continue to do so today in June 2007 for what it stood for and the first signs are that those that follow in the present generations are not less loyal or less determined to keep their FREEDOM AND ANCIENT CONSTITUTION

We hope this is not the case with the Berlin Declaration of June-2007 which should be rejected outright and a counterattack to regain our lost Liberties without delay.]
To continue: And even worse than all [that had been surrendered] is the outrageous provision by which this treaty can be amended in future without the need for any further treaties.
So we are not merely signing away all the powers listed in this TREATY; we are also surrendering our ability to thwart any future attempt by Brussels to extend its power over us yet further in any way it might decide.
Deceit The precise ramifications of this treaty and all its tortuous annexes and declarations may currently be as clear as mud, but one thing is plain. This is the EU CONSTITUTION -in all but name. To describe it as an 'amending 'treaty is demonstrably UNTRUE. It grants the EU a single legal personality whereby it can sign treaties and international agreements in its own right. It thus brings into being a totally new global entity - A SUPER STATE -which changes the legal relationship between Britain and the EU into one to which THE BRITISH PEOPLE NEVER AGREED.
[Well if Gordon Brown does not reverse this con-trick in the first few weeks of his new premiership then there should be A CALL TO THE LOYAL PEOPLE OF BRITAIN TO ASCEND ON LONDON IN THEIR MILLIONS AND NOT BUDGE UNTIL THE TREATY IS DISOWNED BY PARLIAMENT. We have in the past called in vain for more unity of the EU sceptics by forming an umbrella organisation to consolidate the political organisations and associations in order to achieve a positive move to ensure that a march in London in July/August 2007 - would succeed. ]
The way it is being pushed through, moreover, takes the undemocratic ruthlessness of the EU to new depths. usually ,its treaties are preceded by an inter-governmental conference to thrash out the provisions This time the conference is to be held afterwards -and member states will be told they can only discuss the terms that the European Council wants. The whole thing is therefore in effect an EU coup d etat Who can be surprised? mendacity and hostility are written in the very DNA of the European project. It always was a scheme to destroy the sovereignty of member states while pretending to act in their interests. It always involved a wholesale deceit of the people's of Europe, because it was always understood that none of them would knowingly vote for their countries NATIONAL SUICIDE [Well they certainly are not daft knowing that at this vital moment they must achieve their evil deed before the people's of Europe find out the TRUTH. The reason is not too far to see because euroscepics have been too busy power building within their own organisations -some have quite sizeable war -chests - one is reputed to have over £400,000 and others no doubt have similar deposits yet in the interest of ALL they seem to care little no wonder that successive governments of the past and present felt there were no serious dangers to their traitorous plans. There is no doubt that if millions of eurosceptics had been on the streets of London and other major cities over the past few months even the artful and deceitful Tony Blair would have taken notice and maybe he may have decided to reign in his treacherous plans and it might have given urgently needed ammunition to Gordon Brown to ensure that the whole affair was shelved for good.
The eurosceptic parties and organisations have let themselves down by their inactivity and want of unity in purpose. THEY COULD HAVE MADE A STAND BUT FAILED TO DO SO.
When we went to London to attend the ceremony of the Freedom Association handing in the 0ver 1,000,000 signed Petition to the Queen a few years ago we were virtually alone. Things have certainly improved since then but it seems not greatly hence the recent con-trick on the British people by our departing supposed 'Servant of the people' with the traitorous BERLIN DECLARATION]
We can see by the evidence of our own eyes on the eve of the departure of the most Disreputable-Duplicitous and Dishonest Prime Ministers in British history and the majority of MP's in our once free parliament are purposely blind to the true nature of the new EU TREATY -but then as most of them are only there for the spoils and wouldn't know what REAL DEMOCRACY means -after the farce of the implanted so-called democracy on Iraq and Afghanistan which has threatened the stability of the Middle East. The scene in our once respected House of Commons on the 25th June -2007 revealed itself the uproar -the utter bedlam of a rabble reminiscent of the ancient days of the Roman Circus. For the participants of the those days there was some excuse. But to find that almost on the eve of the betrayal of our once TRUE PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY known throughout the world as the Mother of Parliaments. For such tumult and laughter and ridicule - THERE IS NONE!] * Choice The 64,000 -euro question is what Gordon Brown WILL NOW DO. Tony Bliar's parting gift to him is a primed constitutional time-bomb. For even before Mr Brown kisses hands with the Queen on Wednesday 27th June -2007 -as her Prime Minister, he has been landed with a choice between destroying what remains of her SOVEREIGNTY IN PARLIAMENT and throwing a huge spanner in the EU works. If he calls a referendum -HE WILL LOSE IT. If he doesn't - - HE WILL LOSE THE VOTERS FOR THE PUBLIC ARE NOT STUPID. THEY CAN SEE THIS [EU] CONSTITUTION FOR WHAT IT IS
[Well he is hardy likely to survive if he tries to brazen the whole matter out in the hope that his other priorities as important as they are will be able to submerge the matter from further discussion. The quip the other night by Michael Portillo that the Tories don't want to harp on about the EU illustrates the nonchalance of those committed Europhiles who sneer at the attempted counter coup knowing perhaps that under their present leader how short-lived will be the Conservative opposition to the betrayal of a nation state of over 1200 years in the making. With the arch-Bilderberger Kenneth Clarke in their ranks having being given much cover over the past year in the traitorous ranks of the party is now full of himself in his asinine comments which show he would better serve his country-if he has one - by leaving our island home with his fellow conspirators as quickly as possible -by Eurostar from Waterloo would be nice.] To ask whether [Gordon Brown] would call a referendum is, however, surely to think in the wrong way. For if Mr Brown did agree to call one -and the pressure on him is growing after Ireland's decision to do so -this would mean that he would first be recommending this treaty to Parliament. BUT since it entails the destruction of Britain as a self-government nation, no prime Minister should present it to parliament in the first place. Prime Minister Brown should simply refuse to countenance it at all. Indeed, how could any Prime Minister committed to upholding democracy [in the mother of parliaments] do otherwise? If Mr Brown puts this EU constitution to Parliament and in addition refuses to hold a referendum, he will not merely forfeit the voter's trust at the very start of his premiership. he will make voting for him or any other government totally pointless. THIS IS NOT JUST ANOTHER TIRESOME POLITICAL ROW. WHAT IS AT STAKE HERE IS DEMOCRACY ITSELF.

Stop the excuses and hold an EU referendum SIR - In April 2004, we sent a PETITION of over 1,000,000 signatures to the Queen requesting NO ROYAL ASSENT to any BILL -authorising the proposed EU CONSTITUTION -unless approved by at least two thirds of the ELECTORATE in a REFERENDUM Three weeks later, Tony Blair promised a referendum, on which HE and GORDON BROWN have since reneged as being unnecessary.
The revamped version of the EU Constitution -is virtually identical with its predecessor, and Mr Blair's attempts to hide this is a shameful BETRAYAL OF THE COUNTRY. THEREFORE If our elected politicians refuse TO HONOUR THEIR OATHS I propose that an INDEPENDENT REFERENDUM IS ARRANGED -funded and conducted without further ado, preceded by a FULL HONEST PRESENTATION OF THE FACTS. This would at least provide a reliable unspun indication of public opinion. We should also insist that there is NO GOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH BRUSSELS. until the outcome of the REFERENDUM IS KNOWN The British people can then choose whether they wish to be subjugated by AN ALIEN POWER OR SET FREE!

Over a Hundred and Fifty Seven years ago a great
patriotic Prime Minister -Foreign Secretary -Lord Palmerstone (Henry John Temple)
-beloved by his People defined the principle of nationality as follows: “
Providence meant mankind to be divided into separate nations, and for this
purpose countries have been bounded by natural barriers, and races of men have
been distinguished by separate languages, habits, manners, dispositions, and
characters…” (1848) “…We have in the first place to say that the Business of an English Government,
is to pursue that course of Foreign Policy which on the whole they may think
right; and not to attempt the impossible task of at all times and upon all
subjects doing that which is agreeable to all Foreign Governments. A
man who in private life attempts to please everyone, invariably fails; and
the Government of a great country would not be more successful in such an
endeavour… .
It must at times be an advantage to a foreign Prince…in the present state of
the continent to visit England and to see with his own eyes, how Liberty may be
combined with Loyalty, Freedom with public order, and how the Respect which
is shown by the Crown for the Rights of the Subject and for the enactment of
the Law produces corresponding Feelings on the Part of the People and inspires
