OUR UNREPRESENTATIVE VOTING
SYSTEM= BREEDS TREASON -BETRAYAL OF COUNTRY
It
is obvious to many that the present system of Representation has never been
justified on Democratic grounds. It is clearly repugnant to Democratic
Principles that a minority of votes cast should be able to elect a majority of
the members of the legislature.
An
early champion of the reform of the Representative system John Stuart Mill in
his Representative Government published in 1861, wrote:
‘’In
a really equal Democracy, every, or any section would be Represented not disproportionally,
but proportionally. A majority of electors would always have a majority of the
Representatives; but a minority of the electors would always have a minority of
the Representatives. Man-to-Man they would be as fully Represented as the
majority. Unless they are, there is not Equal Government, but a government of
inequalities and privilege: one part of the People rule the Rest; there is a
part whose fair and equal share of influence in the Representation is withheld
from them; contrary to all Just Government, but which professes equality at its
very root and foundation’’.
The
support for the present undemocratic procedure is they say because it leads to
Firm and Decisive Government. Well we have to ask ourselves if the PR system
had been introduced in the aftermath of the war would the successive
Governments been able to deceive the People as we are all now aware. Would we have joined in EU
in 1972? Would we have had stricter
Asylum Laws? Would we have had New Labour in 1997? We would certainly have a
great fishing industry and much else.
The
cosy relationship between the main rivals of power has enabled them to use the
system to each of their own interests – because they certainly were not looking
after as their prime responsibility, our Constitution and Independence of our
Nation. Their main thoughts appear to be how they can prosper in the clutches
of that monstrous creature enveloping the once Free Peoples of the Continent
and this once Free People.
Our
Representatives? When they are not voting to increase their pickings from what
appears an open trough of goodies – and with ample time in ‘after hours’ to
enjoy their new found freedom and good fortune- though we hear of late that the
‘nappies brigade’ appear to have a revolt on their own doorstep- for the return
of those convenient late sittings.
It
would be too much to expect that this is the result of members suddenly realising
that there will soon be no need for a Parliament having themselves passed laws
to make this happen?
It would be a revelation if for once now they
know the Truth of the deceit at the heart of Government over the last 40years
that they would now take an interest in arranging for us all to leave that
other overpriced Club across the channel, which has and is still bleeding us
dry.
But
to return to the possible solution to our Undemocratic Representative system.
Many examples of PR have been advocated over the past century and therefore it
should be possible to introduce a more democratic basis in place of the present
arrangements and it is now time for some change to the present system. Only
with the more democratic form, will there be more interest taken by many of
those millions of voters who at present have no say in the workings of their
government.
The
form of proportional representation that has the largest body of support in
Great Britain is known as the system of the Single Transferable Vote. If this were adopted,
single member constituencies would disappear, and larger multiple-member constituencies
would take their place. each returning three or more members to the House of
Commons.
‘’Whatever
the number of members in the constituency,’’ says an advocate of the system, ‘’each
elector would have one vote only; but he would be entitled to indicate on the ballot
paper the order of his preference among the candidates by numbering them,
1,2,3.4,etc. If the candidate of his first Preference did not require his vote,
or was hopelessly out of the running, the vote would be transferred to his second
preference, and if need be to his third, and so on.
In no case can his vote be wasted: it
would always help to return somebody. This is the essence of the system, the
means by which it is ensured that every vote counts.’’ (Ramsey Muir))
Whatever
is said about the fact that the present system works –though not perfectly (as
well we know) – and that people understand it (well they know it is a con)-it
does not address the fact that over the last forty years the main parties have
covered up a Conspiracy which has almost destroyed our Constitution and almost
submerged this once Free Nation State into a mirage of a supposed Democratic
Fairyland whereas the Truth must frighten everyone?
Well! We all know the TRUTH now but do you hear any
indignation or regret from those politicians (well there has been some movement)
who have personally taken a hand in the betrayal of a once Free and Proud
Democratic Nation State? We have one word for them’ Impeachment’’.
If
any proof were needed that there must be a change in our present
unrepresentative voting system it is the revelation of the facts that the main
parties have shown themselves as destroyers of their own House and the
Institutions of our Country without the consent of the Political Sovereignty of
the People, which they know they cannot obtain.
