A SOLEMN DUTY TO OUR WAR WOUNDED

COMMENT
ACCORDING to
his doctors, Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson is the most seriously
wounded British soldier ever to survive
He suffered 37
catastrophic injuries when his unprotected Land Rover was hit last
September by a landmine in Helmand Province, Afghanistan
Both his
legs have been amputated. His spleen and some of his ribs, torn apart by
shrapnel, have been removed. His left arm is almost paralysed. He has
lost three years of memory and is only now beginning to recover the
power of speech.
YET
-in spite of
his horrific injuries Ben has been awarded only
HALF
-the maximum
allowed under the
ARMED FORCES COMPENSATION SCHEME
WHY?
Because under
asinine rules rigidly enforced by Whitehall pen-pushers, no serviceman
can be compensated for more than three separate injuries.
NEVER MIND
THAT
Ben's multiple
wounds have left him incapacitated.
NEVER MIND
THAT
his £ 152,150
WILL NEVER MEET HIS NEEDS.
Rules are rules,
say the MoD bureaucrats. And that means Ben can claim nothing for
his 'lesser' injuries -

Can this be the
same MoD which , just a month ago, agreed to pay
£484,000
to an RAF typist
who suffered only a repetitive strain injury to her
thumb.
TRUE, many may argue there is no place for the
compensation culture in our Armed Forces-where the risk of death or
serious injury goes with the job.
Indeed in earlier conflicts a soldier as grievously
injured as Ben would have died on the battlefield.
YET haven't we always had a bounden duty, under
the compact between the
STATE and the MILITARY
-to offer what help we can to soldiers who risk so
much?
Time and Time again, Ministers have neglected our side of the COMPACT.
They have closed
MILITARY HOSPITALS
They have allowed housing for
SERVICE FAMILIES
-to fall into shocking disrepair.
AND NOW THEY INSULT
a hideously injured serviceman with an offer that takes
no account of the seriousness of his wounds.
AS LONG as we have a compensation scheme for the ARMED
FORCES, hasn't the GOVERNMENT a CLEAR DUTY to ENSURE that it operates
FAIRLY? *

Severely injured in
Afghanistan Ben Parkinson is offered the
usual pittance from the MoD. With twelve
injuries from loss of both legs above
the knee to many fractures he is only
entitled to receive compensation for
three. £115,000 plus additional payments
of £34,500 and £1650. which for someone
so badly injured and needing special
care for the rest of his life is a
derisory payment when compared to a
payout to an RAF typist of £484,000 for
an injured thumb.

DUAL CITIZENSHIP

EUROPEAN and BRITISH
The extra tier of citizenship was
thrust upon the people without their consent -and in many cases
knowledge.
The PEOPLE of GREAT BRITAIN should be
allowed the option of opting out of the EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP if they so
wish. The GOVERNMENT will then be able to provide those who have opted
out with
BRITISH DOCUMENTATION
-only such as British (not EU)
passports, driving licences and other national documents.
EU laws will also NOT APPLY to those who
