COWERING under the SERMONS and the
BOMBARDMENT from POLITICIANS and the MEDIA (Most of all) about the
URGENT NEED to CUT our CARBONS and SAVE THE PLANET
MOST PEOPLE BELIEVE THEY ARE BEING TOLD
THE TRUTH.
Well, surely (I hear you cry) both main
parties wouldn't unite in a CAUSE which is 'a SWINDLE' - to quote from
CHANNEL 4's excellent programme on the TOPIC.
BUT WHY EVER NOT?
SWINDLES are COMMON-PLACE in POLITICS
-along with bogus causes and calculated
deceptions.
If you have ANY DOUBTS, just take the
CASE of IRAQ. Don't you feel SWINDLED about the REASONS for the
INVASION, also supported by
BOTH MAIN PARTIES?
Only yesterday, we learned that the
cost of the London Olympics has trebled in little more that a year. You
are certainly entitled to feel you were conned after being assured that
the supposed triumph of securing the
GAMES for LONDON.
-rapturously welcomed by all political
parties, of course - would involve only moderate and carefully assessed
costs.
Or take the COLLAPSE of so many
PENSION SCHEMES after Chancellor Gordon Brown's tax changes.
SWINDLE!
-is the commonest word employed by
MILLIONS of unfortunate VICTIMS.
In any case, it is hard to find anyone
who does
NOT ASSUME that POLITICAL
MANIFESTOS or POLITICIANS PROMISES -ARE LARGELY FIBS.
BUT PERHAPS, in the GLOBAL
WARMING/CARBON-CUTTING BUSINESS you will say, there is such a CONSENSUS
among' EXPERTS' and all RIGHT -THINKING PEOPLE.
There are few dissenters - none, it
might be thought-if you listen to the BBC, for example.
ALAS, the pattern is familiar. You may
remember the cross-party enthusiasm for our joining the
EXCHANGE RATE MECHANISM
in 1990 -which we left so abruptly in
1992 and which has left scars on the TORIES even NOW. What a feast of
political consensus was there!
IT INCLUDED: Both FRONT BENCHES,
plus of course , the LIB DEMS, and taking in the CBI, the TRADE UNIONS,
whole galleries of EXPERTS and supposedly WELL-INFORMED commentators,
THEY ALL GOT IT WRONG
and
WORSE -FORESEEABLY WRONG
The list over the years of VITAL CAUSES
, subsequently found
NOT TO BE VITAL -AT ALL -IS LONG AND
WIDE -RANGING.
[WRONG THAT]
BRITAIN HAD to have military bases
'East of Suez'
[WRONG THAT]
THE EXCHANGE RATE for the POUND had to
be kept FIXED.
[WRONG THAT]
INFLATION could be solved only by
legislating against PRICES and INCOMES increase.
[WRONG THAT]
EXCHANGE CONTROLS were ESSENTIAL to
prevent the COLLAPSE of the POUND.
[AND WORST OF ALL -WRONG THAT]
And JOINING the COMMON MARKET would NOT
DAMAGE our
NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY
etc etc etc etc
It is worth considering WHY politicians
have become so passionate about 'green' policies and , of course, so
keen to argue that their own party has a better solutions than the other
lot.
[BUT NOT THE OPEN DEBATE NEEDED WITH SO
MANY WORLD FAMOUS EXPERTS WHO STATE THAT THE SUN CONTROLS
TEMPERATURE CHANGES -NOT CO2 - CARBON EMISSIONS -A MISTAKE NOT CORRECTED
EARLY THIS TIME WILL SURELY CHANGE OUR WAY-OF-LIFE ON A BIG LIE WHICH WE
AND FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL REGRET]
The fact is that a panic about the
ENVIRONMENT has a natural appeal to these people. As they may
acknowledge, at any rate in their cups, there is no surer means of
winning the public's attention than to warn of a danger and
simultaneously declare that they know how to take it away. (The police
also understand this approach when interrogating criminals)
MOREOVER , the CARBON menace, IF IT
EXISTS , is a welcome diversion for BOTH SIDES from the more awkward
issues such as:
TAXATION
THE WARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN
COLLAPSED PENSION SCHEMES
IMMIGRATION
THE PREVALENCE OF CRIME
FAILURE IN EDUCATION
FAILURE PUBLIC TRANSPORT
AND SO ON & ON & ON....
-For which they are so bereft of
answers.
It is much easier to talk about the
weather and warn about grim implications. Anyway, politicians enjoy an
atmosphere of crisis. It makes them and their eagerly propounded
solutions sound so important. It makes it easier to say that the
man in Whitehall knows best.
IT ENHANCES THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT
[AT YOUR EXPENCE AND WE ARE NOT ONLY
TALKING POUNDS BUT THE ENORMOUS ENHANCED POWER PLACED IN THEIR HANDS]
AND THERE ARE VOTES HERE
The Greens and their supporters may not
constitute a massive vote, but it is worth chasing. So the bandwagon
rolls, and all manner of scientists and observers are also clambering
on. It can mean official grants for further study, new university posts,
fame, being quoted in the PRESS and interviewed on TV.
[Fortunately we have still have a FREE
PRESS but if the Declaration of Berlin is passed on the 25th March this
year this will over time be limited or even eliminated. So it is vital
that the PRESS have a weekly column on ONE some would say the greatest
questions to be answered THE TRUTH about GLOBAL WARMING and weekly
articles with contributions from expert scientists at present ignored
because they do not fit the politicians norm should be given a platform
for their independent views not only for the FREEDOM of DEBATE but ALSO
the FREEDOM to KNOW the TRUTH about OUR PLANET and the UNIVERSE
before we waste the colossal billions on false premises and delay the
acceptance of the status quo and put our full energies and resources
where it will DO MOST GOOD.]
To continue:
The notion that scientists would not
indulge in anything unscientific, that they are naturally incapable of
confusing CAUSE and EFFECT
-is TOUCHING but NAIVE.
ALREADY, the VESTED INTERESTS in CARBON
CONTROLS have become IMMENSE. The PROPAGANDA is INCESSANT and will
INCREASE.
None of this is to say that climate
change is unimportant or that it does not appear to be happening or the
results many not be severe.
The BIG ISSUE is whether it IS DUE to
CARBON EMISSIONS or is another of those [natural] warming -up periods
seen throughout the planet's history alongside periods of intense cold
and which appear to be related logically enough with activity
WITHIN THE SUN ITSELF.
I will be humble. There is an outside
chance that the carbon controllers are right and that 'it is
different this time' (to quote the favourable phrases of
over-optimistic City stockbrokers trying to sell stocks at prices that
defy gravity)
The chances of them being bright is ,
lets be generous
5%
That is considerably more than the
expected impact of the changes being proposed by our politicians on
global emissions.

[As has already been stated, in
India -China and other developing parts of the world -new POWER STATIONS
burning fossil fuels will come on stream at the rate of at least 5 a
week so that even IF targets are reached by those countries on the
CARBON EMISSIONS bandwagon it will be but as to take a teaspoon of water
from a barrel already overflowing.
