(In Afghanistan.) HELMAND Province isn’t Switzerland - but it is under control, says a British officer clenching his fist. There have been several days of clashes in Sangin, this place of dense foliage, which has been described b a soldier as almost Vietcong terrain’ and which is known as the Taliban’s backyard’. As one Para from Camp Bastion (the British Forces main base) puts it: ‘EVERYONE HAS A GUN AND
EVERYONE WANTS TO KILL YOU.’ The British Army was sent to
the area to take the lead role in the NATO International Security Assistance
Force’s mission to help the [U.S. imposed] Government control the country
against the renewed threat of Taliban Warlords who now cast their dark shadow
over the lawless no-man’s land. This week, two members of
Britain’s Special Services were killed in a Taliban ambush. The attack in Helmand brought the British
death toll in the long-running war to 10 Even as the British contingent of 3,000 troops set up the base, the Taliban were handing out leaflets to the local population warning that the Brits would bring destitution and disorder. The tragedy is that
intimidation offers a kind of security. Just as the Taliban first emerged from
the chaos of the Mujahideen’s battle with the Soviets in 1994, so they now
offer Security to the local people
in exchange for terror and repression- a POLICE STATE based on
IDEOLOGY. Camp Bastion is a place of
exhausting heat and twister dust storms (said to be composed of 30 per cent
human faeces from the open sewers.) Helmand is described by a
senior soldier as ‘miles and miles of f**k-all with a river running through
it’. [In other words a grand place to
send the MoD staff so as to get them once again where they deserve to be -in
the s**t]. Within this wasteland, the
Taliban operate by guerrilla warfare.
If a group of rebel fighters calculates there is -A SUPERIOR FORCE AGAINST
THEM, they will quickly bury their weapons and sit innocently on fences passing
the time [Or listening to the Blairite ‘ gender awareness workshops’ and you
won’t believe this-‘health and safety officers’.] They are hard and cunning
says a British commander. [YES! those idiots from PC Britain certainly ARE.] The American Secretary of
State Condoleeza Rice, was in the Capital yesterday. I flew in with General Sir
Mike Jackson-the Chief of the General Staff, who, behind closed doors, was
discussing troop levels and engagements. The conflict between the
forces of anarchy and a weak government has made Afghanistan the highest
priority for American and British administrations desperate to preserve what
they have long argued was a great victory over terrorism. If this country falls to the
Taliban and its masters in the Pakistani town of Quetta, then we lose the war
on terror. As Lieutenant -General David Richards, commander of
the International Security Assistance Force puts it: We cannot
fail.’ [Not as Tony Blair says
LOOTENANT after spending so much time with his pal George. With regard to Lieutenant - General
David Richards remark ‘We cannot fail’ Was not this the same
thought that was held by the American High Command during the Vietnam War and
we all know how that ended with a disastrous defeat after years of stoic
resistance from not only the Vietnamese but also the American People. A programme on BBC on
Tuesday the 27th June-2006 VIETNAM: SIR, NO SIR -THE GI
REVOLT: BBC4 ON BBC2; Documentary telling the
story of a movement opposed to the Vietnam War that developed in the most
unlikely of settings-the U.S. Armed Forces themselves (Supported by the
University campuses across America.) For details of those times
see a new book now released: ‘THEY MARCHED INTO THE
SUNLIGHT.’ * To continue: We arrive at Kandahar airport - with difficulty, since the Americans bombed the runway when they invaded the country. A member of the British contingent observes the pitted terrain and says dryly: ‘I wasn’t aware the
Taliban had a large airforce’ Originally, the Americans believed their task was to destroy the Taliban and to eradicate the opium poppy crops. But the British found, as ever, that things are more complicated. AS FAST as they are killed
fervent new recruits pour out of the madrassas (religious schools) in Pakistan.
‘Some of these Taliban are just kids,’ says one officer. [History of the 20th
century will reveal that it was the so-called kids who were the hardest in
fighting and the hardest to beat.] In 2001, the Islamist
activist Ali Bin Mawiya boasted: ‘If the 1.8 million students
of the religious schools come out onto the streets for the implementation of
the Rule of Sharia Law, no power on earth can stop them.’ Today, there are even more
students in these schools and no power can apparently stop them crossing into
Afghanistan to take up arms. The British Army recognises
that its job is not merely to kill Taliban, but to fight them for the souls of
the Afghan population. Above all, the
Western forces have to show that democracy is not another word for lawlessness.
* [Fat chance NOW with our
forces still in Iraq -having illegally invaded in 2003 and their inappropriate
presence in Afghanistan where the so-called government has hardly authority in
its own capital let alone any influence in the country at large. As for the use
of the term democracy as a price worth the lives of our brave soldiers we only
have to look at home as to what has occurred to realise that we have lost OUR DEMOCRACY -as was once known the world over as a place where the People reign and not some demented and devious Cabal of sorts mainly with roots from across our northern border that though having their own parliament of sorts has treated their benefactor ENGLAND -
with
disdain and derogatory declarations. Therefore for the words democracy to have
any real meaning in Iraq or Afghanistan it is time the House of Commons
In ENGLAND -
threw
out the northern invaders in our country and return to a GOVERNMENT of the
PEOPLE by the PEOPLE that our American Ally in Iraq and Afghanistan has
overlooked since Vietnam and we in 2003 with Iraq and now Afghanistan. Our Fighting Services have
been betrayed by their Government with its politically correct agenda and its
illegal invasion of Iraq and its presence in Afghanistan which will end -as
with the Vietnam debacle over 40 years ago with ignominious defeat because a
People defending their own soil against an invader with such fervent religious
fervour will not consider defeat an option. As we have said in the past
we in Britain need to show to the WORLD that we are the NATION to TRUST - but this can only be done
if the northern Cabal is defeated in our once Chamber of LIBERTY to regain the
respect of FRIENDS and FOE alike. A start to unravel the
events of the last few years in the disastrous Foreign Policy of our country
was in Quentin Letts -Yesterday in Parliament (Daily Mail-Friday,
June 30,2006.) * I hope his words turned
Blair’s innards to water THURSDAY afternoons in the
HOUSE of LORDS can be snoozy. The hours tend to pass like men crawling through
Saharan sand. I have been in the Upper
Chamber on a Thursday and seen a bluebottle fly through the doors, take one
glance at the dozing decay and execute an immediate mid-flight U-turn. YESTERDAY WAS AN EXCEPTION. Lord Owen, former Foreign
Secretary
made a serious, angry speech, potentially deadly to Tony Blair’s reputation. At times Lord Owen’s fists were clenched. At others his hands shook with emotion. He demanded Parliament
wrench the Blair regime to ACCOUNT for it’s ‘INCOMPETENT’ handling of the IRAQ
and AFGHANISTAN WARS. Without notes, slowly, he
said that these two foreign adventures had been the almighty cock-up since
GALLIPOLI. Nothing LESS than a DARDANELLES-STYLE
COMMISION was NEEDED to FIND OUT what HAD GONE WRONG, with serving officers and
civil servants giving evidence behind CLOSED DOORS to PARLIAMENTARY HIGH TABLE. He even had a CHAIRMAN for a
COMMISSION: LORD IRVINE, the ex
CHANCELLOR. Could grand Derry live to
score revenge on ‘young Blair’, as he is known to call his one-time pupil? A sweet thought. But this was much more
SERIOUS than mere POLITICKING. Lord Owen, who is no dove and no foe
of America, was astonished by the way Mr Blair had taken us into these WARS and
the WAY much of the SCHEMING was DONE by DOWNING STREET. He noted that the Chancellor
of the Exchequer and the Deputy Prime Minister were keeping OUT OF
DISCUSSIONS. The TRADITIONAL CABINET
has been DISMANTLED. In short he pointed the
BLAME at MR BLAIR himself, suggesting he seized too many POWERS. It was, Lord
Owen noted, a ‘deeply serious question- WE HAVE LOST THE LIVES OF MANY
SERVICEMEN’. His 12-minute speech was one of the most striking I have heard in the Lords. What a pity so few were there to hear it. But I suspect an account soon made its way to DOWNING STREET And I hope it made Mr
Blair’s innards turn to water. The Owen speech came during
a Defence debate in which former military chiefs voiced worries about Iraq and Afghanistan. Lord Inge (soldier), Lord
Boyce (submariner) and Lord Craig (RAF) all made thoroughly depressing speeches
about our Armed Forces. Lord Inge said that our FORCES in AFGHANISTAN are very
EXPOSED. WE MUST HOPE HE IS PROVED
RIGHT. Lord Bramall later reduced
the MINISTER FOR DEFENCE PROCUREMENT , Lord Drayson, to a pile of
rubble… Could Lord Owen’s idea start
something? It’s up to [Mr Nice-Guy- don’t bother me about anything nasty-Dave] David Cameron. The Tory Leader, if he wanted
could force it though both houses. It could be the making of him, and the
ending of Blair. [But as Mr Nice-Guy has had an opportunity to deliver a death
blow in the past but instead in his very words ‘I will support the Prime
Minister if I agree with him’ -and this about a politician
who has been responsible an illegal war - for tens thousands of lives lost in
the invaded country with great destruction to its infrastructure still in ruin
and many of our troops killed or wounded and the reputation of our once proud
nation smeared-stained and tarnished in the World at large. We could have been the
bridge between the Islamic World and the rest of mankind but a northern invader
with his chums and without a respect for ENGLAND -and its past and Institutions-
let alone Britain, which it has all but been destroyed. What is it about the man [Dave]
who has no sense of the urgency to rid our country of a maniac who has done so
much harm to so many with his compatriots so few looked on by so many.] The Dardanelle’s Commission
did not quite finish the young Winston Churchill but it would rip the last
strips of respectability off this Prime Minister’s hide. * * To continue: Hence, for every firefight,
a little act of good is performed in a local village: a new well is built; a
Western doctor or vet is made available. We have to bribe as well as bomb. The Army is also aware that
if all the opium crops are burnt, then Afghanistan’s whole economy would be
wiped out. Military strategists have surveyed this primitive, shattered, tribal
country and know it will take ten years to rescue [If ever! -if the truth was
faced]. The truth is-and it causes
deep unease in the British and U.S. Governments -Afghanistan cannot be quickly
‘fixed’. [In fact so long as the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan remains it
is feeding a growing deadly sore in the Middle East region, which spreads each
day infecting every fighter for liberty for revenge against the invaders and
their numbers are growing by the day.] More disturbing still is the
spectre of this God-forsaken country turning out to be more troublesome than
Iraq. [The British have only to look back to their HISTORY to see where the
TRUTH is but our present Cabal from its northern home has said it has NO TIME for HISTORY. Well TIME! will be the
JUDGE] * To continue: There are already farcically
naïve attempts to impose Western -style democracy in a MEDIEVAL country.
British Army officers have been stunned by the arrival [of NOT desperately
needed armoured vehicles] of BLAIRITE ‘gender awareness workshops’ and ‘health
and safety officers’ to lecture the AFGHAN civil servants, fighting for their
existence, on matters such as ergonomics. [We can’t think of anything more
lethal to our troops than the added anger of the Taliban to this Western
brainwashing exercise, which will inflame the situation into a cauldron of fire
for which our brave soldiers will have to withstand the inferno with their
lives.] SOLDIERS at Camp Bastion
live in a state of perpetual dust, which is plastered to the sweat on their
faces and arms. ‘Iraq is a holiday camp compared to here,’ says one heavily
tattooed Sergeant with cobalt blue eyes, who has served in both countries. ‘These are hard people. In
Iraq, it was the roadside bombs. Here, they would prefer to kill you
themselves.’ I spoke to some of the Paras
who were returning to battle in Sangin every few days. Typical is Private Bash
Ali, 21, who had been the centre of attention for an extraordinary escape,
which he describes in a modest mumble. He was knocked to the ground
during a firefight by the force of what he thought was a rocket-propelled
grenade. A colleague dragged him free but feeling unhurt, he picked up his gun
and began firing again. When he reached into his belt for more magazines, he
found two of them had bullet holes in them. According to a Para officer
Private Ali had begun his Army career falteringly, always slightly in trouble
for getting small things wrong. In action he had shown himself to be brave
beyond most people’s understanding. This war will test man
untried teenagers. Take Private Matt Mayne 18, fair-haired and innocent -faced.
He only recently joined the Army yet has already taken part in close-up
firefights. He has the polite ways of a schoolboy, but the experiences of a
man. ‘It is interesting to be
here to see this different country,’ he says, as if he has been asked to recite
verbs. ‘I have learned to say “hello” in Pashtun, but I can’t really understand
what people are saying back. Some just look at you. Their eyes are really
hard.’ The teenager says that he
tries not to think o0f home in Wiltshire too much. ‘Just sometimes, in the
heat, with the dust in your lungs, which is pretty hideous.’ A Nato observer described
the Americans’ former presence in Southern Afghanistan as ‘rather like a speed
boat going by, causing lots of turbulence, but not solving everything.’ By contrast, the British
will hope to succeed through daily doggedness. The swagger tends to be among
the British pilots, who are delighted by the performance of the Apache
helicopters. [Well maybe the
MoD have taken a few of their stockpiled -mothballed 67 Apache
helicopters which cost over £40,000,000 each when they could have been
purchased for ONLY £12,000,000 direct from the USA - A saving of
£18,000,000 each 0r £1206,000,000 -found the pilots they were
short of and the parts - after all? -or were they borrowed? After
all- in Iraq our troops had to obtain toilet paper and much else from the Yanks
or our troops would have been in a fine mess. And what are a few Apache
helicopters between friends?] * To continue: One blond, grinning pilot,
who declined to be named in case of capture, said: Our Apaches have the wow
factor. You have the power and vision. I can see the rockets on the backs of
the people below.’ The pilot, who only noticed
on returning from his last foray (giving air -support to fighting Gurkhas)
that his machine had rocket holes through the rear, described the surge of
feeling when his own comrades were under attack. [It’s a great pity that
there was not even ONE Apache helicopter to help the SIX REDCAPS IN
IRAQ
-massacred in the Police
Station with their colleagues only a short distance away. We are still awaiting an
INQUIRY to establish the TRUTH and give JUSTICE to the families of the brave
soldiers who died with their backs against a wall defending themselves against
great odds. To continue: [He said] ‘I always thought it would be hard to kill people. But when you see
your own men being attacked it is surprising how easy it is to pull the trigger
-how normal it feels.’ One British general sounds a
note of caution about the high spirits among the Apache pilots. ‘They have been
very good, so the danger is that the pilots could get cocky. And then someone
is going to get shot down and captured.’ The tall blond pilot stops
smiling when I repeat this. ‘I promise you, I don’t think I am
invincible.’ What the British Army is
learning in Helmand is the deadly amorphous nature of the enemy - an axis of
Taliban fighters, criminal gangs, warlords and mercenaries. Although there are stories
of links between the Taliban and Al Qaeda the Afghan Government Minister Addul
Wardak insists there is no substantial Al Qaeda presence here and that
foreign fighters are not welcome. YET a Nato adviser confirms
there are 25 Taliban leaders in Quetta and the Army has noted that the Taliban
are well equipped, trained and disciplined; forming lines and advancing with
extreme professionalism. [Do you understand Lord Drayson what this means-that the MoD need to get their finger out and promptly supply the necessary equipment to minimise the deaths and injuries to our soldiers.] To continue: Moreover, a General in Kabal
tells me he is sure the financial support and training comes from Quetta, just
as he also believes the spiritual leadership is from Taliban leader Mullah
Omah. It is lethally clear that
the British are in charge of this operation at the worst time; the end of the
POPPY HARVEST, which is greater this year than last. Because of the military
activity the harvest is curtailed and migrant labourers are left kicking their
heels. As a senior officer says: ‘You have a poppy labour force of about 23,000 to 30,000 in Helmand. It is not a massive moral step to become a hired gun.’ The heroin, of course, is
supposed to be the reason why the British are here. Ninety-five per cent of the
drugs n Britain are from Afghanistan. Hence Downing Street’s somewhat naïve
enthusiasm for the crop’s instant eradication. [Well over the last nine
years the Blair Government has sent out so many mixed messages on DRUGS as with
CRIME that we now all live in a DRUGS and CRIME dominated country. To think that we have a
right to invade a country in order to destroy its crops because our politicians
have failed to close our borders and make the punishment fit the CRIME is a
dangerous extension of the powers of a British Prime Minister and questionable
in International Law.] To continue: I met the British anti-drugs
team in Kabal, headed by a cheerful man with one of the most challenging jobs
in Afghanistan (which is saying something). The problem is awesome. Poppies are
easy to grow and easy to distribute - the Taliban and the criminal gangs will
do the job for you. In 2001, the Taliban burned
the crops in a stunt to demonstrate to the world both its POWER and IDEOLOGICAL
purity. But since then it has gone back
to controlling opium production. Farmers earn $560million a
year from the Harvest - equivalent to the revenues of the country’s
Government. The crop is then sold on
for $2.7 billion. Over the course of the next
ten years, the British team aims to persuade framers to grow alternative crops
- although opium is ten times the value of wheat crops. The intention is to create a
‘clean’ criminal justice system under which drug traffickers can be brought to
trial and where prisons can be built in which to jail them. [What about the Blair
Government spending the £30,000,000 it already has had reserved for two long years
to build prisons HERE and the money now being spent in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN
which will release billions for our Health Service and Prison Service and
Immigration Control and much more.] There has, so far, been some
success in rebuilding Afghanistan’s institutions and infrastructure to provide
incentives for people to put down their guns. Kabal now bustles with Western
non-governmental organisations, intelligent and well-meaning men and women with
pale anxious faces. I asked Colonel Charlie
Knaggs, Commander of the Helmand Province, what was the difference between
modern Kabal and old-style British colonialism. We are here in support of the
Afghan population. [Just as Blair and his northern raiders would no doubt
say to the people of ENGLAND?] - he reasons quickly. Accordingly, we defend the
country and pay for its reconstruction. Since 2001, £390 million of British
taxpayers’ money has been spent on aid for Afghanistan - much of it on the
salaries of Afghan civil servants. [In a few years or even
earlier we will leave Afghanistan after losing British blood and capital and
the country will return to its previous state unless the people of Afghanistan
decide otherwise. If we must give them aid
then so be it but the lives of our brave soldiers are not to be squandered on a
politically correct exercise to change the minds of a people which centuries
have failed to achieve. Change will come to the Afghans at their TIME and
SPEED.] To continue: The man commanding the
British forces in Afghanistan is Brigadier Ed. Butler. He is a Hereford farmer
whose brisk assessments of the situation are belied by his obvious tenderness
towards his troops. I watched him at a formal
dinner in Kabal in which he joined in the evening’s infectious banter- but his
off-guard expression was one of deep thought and seriousness. The following day he had
promised a farewell chat, but arrived instead to announce that he had lost two
Special Forces soldiers the night before. The insurgency in Helmand is
far more ferocious than anybody predicted. ‘It is what we are here to do. It is
our business.’ He said. [At least Brigadier Butler did not give us some SPIN which no doubt is not in his character but if he could have spoken freely he would no doubt have said -we have no right to be here and this country is not worth the life of ONE British soldier.] Before we left, brigadier
Butler came aboard our Hercules with a grin and a firm handshake. Somebody
asked if he was coming on the journey. NO, I WON’T BE GOING AWOL,’ he said with
forced cheerfulness. Then he tensed and strode
away to organise the repatriation ceremonies for the two Britons this week,
knowing that the moths ahead will involve the hardest man-to-man fighting that
the British Army has had to face in recent years. * * [Even in our country’s
Colonial days our increased share of the world’s land space was as some have
said an afterthought but it was in the main to PROTECT the EMPIRE and what it
meant to all under its generally easy governship and its understanding of the
different people’s under its PROTECTION. Our presence in Iraq and
Afghanistan is NOT to protect the people of the British Isles or even Europe.
It is an unwarranted interference in the affairs of Nations which are under the
Islamic World of influence and at this dangerous time in history will NOT bring
PEACE in the Middle-East any nearer but will as already shown in Iraq and now
in Afghanistan and the deadlock between Israel who has a right of existence as
sure as that of the right of the State of Palestine. Only a border which each side can firmly control will ever Peace
be possible in the REGION. As a first step our troops MUST leave Iraq and Afghanistan
as a sign of British goodwill and possibly of their acceptance by both sides in
the Middle -East as an arbiter of a peaceful end to their wish for a shared
respect for each other’s right to exist. The above conditions can
only be met by the resignation of the present Government and a General Election
with a mandate to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and concentrate on the
Middle-East region for settlement of the Israeli-Palestine Question. Failure to do so at a time
of rising danger of conflict between America and Iran will be a powder keg of
an all-out war in the region -the results of which will put the Iraq and
Afghanistan wars as minor engagements in comparison to a possible nuclear
standoff and a MAJOR WAR. A team of Blairite ‘gender awareness workshops’ and ‘health and safety officers’ dispatched to the area will we are reliably informed be next to useless and more likely to inflame already maddened contestants. We can only hope that they
are now aware of this in No 10 and withdraw the provocation and send the other
brainless PC idiots who thought of the idea in the first place packing. It is said: ‘To be a chemist you must
study chemistry; to be a lawyer or a physician you must study law and medicine;
