yobs’ attack THE wife of a man attacked by hooded youths pleaded
for help to catch them yesterday. Phil Carroll 48, is
fighting for his life after confronting teenagers who through a stone at his
Range Rover. He
suffered serious head injuries after being punched to the ground by two teenage
yobs. His wife Jean said: ‘Phil
would always go out of his way to help anyone - now people need to help him’ ‘I am convinced that someone there knows who is
responsible and could take police to their doors’ ‘All we
are asking is for someone who has the information to go to a phone box, say a
name, and put down the phone.’ Speaking
publicly for the first time since the attack that has highlighted the yob
culture bringing fear to the streets, she added: ‘We
are living in a daze at the moment. We
keep on praying for Phil. ‘He is
strong and will not give up against these yobs who attacked him.’ Mr
Carroll a building site engineer was attacked last Friday night near his home in
Salford, Greater Manchester. Since
then Mrs Carroll and their four children have spent hours at his bedside at
Hope Hospital. He has had a third brain operation
and a hospital said: ‘He has improved slightly but he is still very poorly.’ Police
say gangs of ‘feral’ youths are terrorising the area near the family’s home and
Mrs Carroll confirmed they were constant in the area. But she added: ‘Phil has
lived in Salford all his life and the community where we live are really nice
people. We couldn’t
ask for a better husband and father. He looked after us and hopefully he will
be back and look after us again’ * * A girl who was beaten unconscious
in a so -called ‘happy slapping’ incident has only one kidney and could
have been killed Police
believe that some of the youths who attacked 16 - year old Becky Smith knew of
her condition and may have been aiming to damage the organ by kicking her lower
back. Last
night a 16-year old girl arrested on suspicion of assault was released on
police bail. Becky was a victim of the ‘happy
slapping ‘craze where teenage thugs record themselves on mobile phones
committing acts of violence. Sick video

Neighbours of Mr Irwing said the area had been plagued by gangs of youngsters
wearing ‘hoodies’-the hooded tops used to conceal the wearers identity
which have been banned by some shopping centres. They
described the widower as a ‘charming old gentleman’ and a devoted family
man who led a full and active life. He
was ambushed in an apparently motiveless attack at around 10.50pm on Thursday
19th May -2005 as he returned home from the line-dancing club at the
church hall in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Azhar
Mirza, who lived opposite Mr Irwing, said: ‘I opened the door and I saw this man lying on the pavement. There was blood gushing from his head and his mouth and he was obviously very badly hurt,’ Mr Irwing was taken to
High Wycombe General Hospital, where he died of his injuries Effle
Johnson, who had known Mr Irwing and his family for 38 years, said: ‘This
is really shocking. It could not have happened to someone less deserving of it’ ‘We
used to see him several times a day walking his dog out for walks along the
street to get to the park and he always said “Hi” ‘This isn’t the sort of neighbourhood where you would imagine this sort of thing could happen but you read of these teenagers today and I guess this is what happens.’ She said Mr Irwing was
widowed six years ago and has a son and daughter. He had cared for his mother
until his mother died three years ago. ‘He was a devoted to his wife and his mum and would do anything for them, she said. He always wanted to keep busy and his passions were taking the dogs out and his line-dancing.’ Another
neighbour - who would not give his name - said there were large groups of youngsters;
many wearing hooded tops, which would hang around drinking and smoking in the
area. ‘My
son, let alone those of us who are older, used to find these groups pretty
intimidating.’ He said. ‘They would shout things and you just avoided eye contact because one never quite sure what might happen.’
A spokesman for the Silver
Star line-dancing club said: ‘He was a quiet man, but used he used to have enormous fun with our cowboy boots.’ ‘I’m horrified to hear what has is happened to him. He was a very nice, quiet, charming old gentleman.’ Earlier this week, Chief Superintendent David Baines of greater Manchester Police made his comments about ‘feral youths’, ‘who have little control over their behaviour…and little parental control over the way they live’. youngsters who threw stones at his car in Salford. In another incident, Becky Smith 16, from Blackley, Manchester, was beaten unconscious by a gang who filmed the attack on their mobile phones in a craze known as ‘happy slapping’ Hoodies have been banned
by shopping centres in Kent, London and Manchester because of complaints from
customers that the youngsters who wear them are intimidating. Two youths, aged 17 and
18, were being questioned last night b Thames Valley Police on suspicion of
murder. Police said that anyone
who was in the area should contact detectives on 0845 8 505 505. The motive for the attack
remained unclear last night. Police would not say if anything was taken from Mr
Irwing or confirm speculation that a weapon had been used. [Font altered-bolding used

gets to grips with the problem of clearing the Yobs from the streets soon there
will soon arise a realisation in the communities that the police cannot protect
them so they have to provide their own. For many people the
streets of their neighbourhood are no longer safe so that many will be confined
to their homes, which as we know could be burgled or worse. What is the solution? Well we can
no longer rely on the police so the citizen will soon have to consider carrying
some means of protecting himself or herself from attack. If the Government cannot protect the people
then they should allow them to arm themselves so that they can reassert their
right to walk around their streets unmolested and in the event of an intruder
in the home to take the ultimate sanction rather they leave themselves in
danger. Of course the politically-
correct brigade and all the OTHER so-called reformists who have given us this
problem will no doubt protest at the vigilante measures but have they a
solution. What is freedom worth
if you cannot use it because
your streets are unsafe to use and even in your supposed secure castle you
could one day face someone in your home. A solution must be
implemented soon or it will no longer be a matter if the law-abiding citizen will
