 UK voting system' ignores will of millions'

BRITAIN'S voting system is 'archaic' and divisive' and does not represent the will of millions, a pressure group has argued. The Electoral Reform Society, which has campaigned for proportional representation for 130 years, claimed last month's General Election was the most disproportionate ever.  It said UKIP would have WON up to 80 seats using the type of PR used in many European nations, while the GREENS would have got 20.  UKIP and the GREENS received 5MILLION VOTES, but under the FIRST-PAST-THE-POST system ended up with ONE MP each.  An E R S-commissioned survey said under PR the TORIES would have seen their tally of MPs fall  by almost 100 while  LABOUR would have gone down 24...

Now is Not the Time to Prate About. - Join the Bandwagon.

 

The following letter from a correspondent outlined in Eurofacts on the 10th September 2004 could not have more clearly expressed the views of a great number of patriots, who are described elsewhere in the journal by another contributor, ‘as the dated Music Hall, ‘John Bull’ style ham patriotic aesthetic …plays well with a predominately older though declining constituency’?

 

As there are at this time –September 2004 - millions of ‘John Bull’s’ and many more joining them over the next few years, this constituency will continue to grow, and its influence.  In a recent You-Gov poll recently, many of the younger generation are not short of patriotism either.

Join the Band wagon!

 

Dear Sir

 

For over 70 years I have been compulsively obsessed by the ‘political scene,’ primarily in the United Kingdom.

 

By background, I should without doubt be a true Blue Tory, but as, in my opinion, such a being belongs to a highly endangered species, I’m not.  Neither am I drawn in any way to the Machiavellian duplicities of the Blair regime or the ‘funny farm’ witterings of the Liberals.

 

Which brings me to the UKIP, the new kid on the block in terms of enhanced political importance.  It has taken a number of years to advance through the protective glass ceiling of the ‘Big Three’ who all fight with might and main to defend ‘their’ territory from interlopers.

 

Well, It isn’t   ‘their’ territory, it never was ‘their territory’ – it is the Nation’s territory – and the Nation has spoken and made it clear that none of the ‘Big Three’ are satisfactory.  Mind you, UKIP will also ‘go rotten’ in due course – all political parties do. 

 

But, pro tem, if anyone has a genuine love of their country and is concerned for the future of their children they should put their weight behind the UKIP bandwagon – and that’s it in a nutshell.

 

Now is not the Time to prate about.

 

The best government during my lifetime by far was the 2rd World War coalition.  It was focussed entirely on the good of the country and not on party advantage.  Without the focus we’d never have won the war.  So think about –the good of the country –is what matters, not benefits to entrenched politicians.  And right now UKIP represents that focus.’
