Iraq -Lions led by Asses – But at What a Price?

The Spirit of England’s Past and Present will always be with the brave Spartan Three Hundred at the Greek Pass of Thermopile over twenty five centuries ago, who All died for Freedom with their Full Sacrifice as their Testimony of their Valour.

Today- We in this country have our own hero’s who refused to desert their post. They were betrayed by the indifferent attitude of their Government, who’s Representatives felt a holiday more appropriate than ensuring our troops would not have to go to war without the necessary means of efficient communication and suitable equipment for the battle ahead.

It is not unexpected that our Government failed to provide what was needed at the crucial time – they have taken the same cavalier attitude to requests from the elderly and the sick in their main preoccupation with SPIN.

What is most revealing about the tragic events in Iraq is why did not those politicians on those Committees concerned with Defence Equipment speak out to the Press when they realized the lack of equipment or the unreliability of equipment, which could put the lives of our forces in unnecessary risk? –Maybe someone may have done- but the actions of this Government confirm a cover-up!

When our country is truly threatened from without as has happened in the past and there was no alternative but to go to war with little equipment and possibly that inferior to the enemy, one accepts the risk at the time, leaving recriminations to after the conflict.

What this Government did was to embark on a war when there was no real threat to this country and therefore they were aware of the shortages of equipment and the unreliability of the equipment and therefore by embarking on the war they deliberately placed our Forces in unnecessary danger.  They cannot at a later stage claim it was a just war under these circumstances.

 Many members of the Government and Members of Parliament and Army commanders and Others, need to look at themselves to ask could we have done more to prevent this unnecessary loss of life – were we too concerned about our own futures?

The recent events have shown the danger our country is facing from so many people turning a blind eye to the corruption and undemocratic and immoral tactics of those persons in and about the Government.

Fortunately there are some Patriots  - men of Peace and Principle who in places of trust have put their Country before there own interests and in some cases suffered as our brave soldiers who faced the ‘Enemy’ without complaint and paid the ultimate penalty.  In their sacrifice they have put their trust in those who our nation has appointed to investigate the Rotten core at the heart of Government. At stake is the Integrity of the principle that All are equal before the Law.

We as a Nation have reached a crucial stage in our History. We can reclaim our Heritage with Honour if we seek the Truth , and thereby put our Constitution back on track for a further Thousand years.

At a previous period of Despotism in this Island’s History which led to the Civil War of the seventeenth century our greatest poet after Shakespeare, John Milton a great defender of English Liberty in that austere time though a Puritan, but with the free spirit of pleasure wrote:

“ Haste thee, Nymph and bring with thee

Jest and youthful jollity;

Quips and Cranks and Wanton Wiles,

Nods and Becks and wreathed Smiles,

Such as hang on Hebe`s cheek,

And love to live in dimple sleek;

Sport that wrinkled care derides,

And laughter holding both his sides.

Come, and trip it, as you go

On the light fantastic toe;

And the mountain Nymph, sweet Liberty.”

Over the centuries our poets and writers have exclaimed the four great Virtues of:

Truth, Sincerity, Love, and Joy.

The four great lessons which we should learn and which are violated and need to be relearned in every generation.

Today we have Political Correctness and Spin and an uncertain Moral philosophy unfolding. We have yet to appreciate where our destiny lies in the future. Now is the time to take stock of what we hold most dear – and make a stand, for our - and our children’s tomorrows.

Our final message to those who we hope will soon belong to the past:

 “ Go tell “President” Blair, thou who passest by, that we in England will keep our Freedom than believe in a LIE”.
