Britannia rules
WHAT a spectacle!
For a NATION whose very IDENTITY has been defined by the SEA?
WHAT
a finer way
to celebrate the anniversary of a naval battle that launched a century of
British global dominance?
Churlish
to point out
that vessels from 35 other countries had to be drafted in to deliver a
display the ROYAL NAVY would once have put on single - handed.
Churlish
too, to
remind the panjandrums of political - correctness that at TRAFALGAR the Reds
did not fight the Blues. -
THE
BRITISH
beat the

Resulting in the
creation of the greatest navy and arguably most beneficial empire in history.

Warships left to rot
as millions
go to the Army

Daily Mail

Defence Correspondent
Wednesday, June 15, 2005.
THE
ROYAL NAVY’S warships are being deliberately allowed to deteriorate, a disturbing
report reveals.
Cash
is being diverted away from the fleet to help the Army cope with huge demands
of operations around the world, particularly in Iraq.
[And who do we all have to blame for this
state of affairs but our own Tony Blair the supposed deliverer of democracy to
all the four corners of the world whether they request it or not. With the cost of the illegal war in Iraq
topping £5 billion and rising by the day.
And
a further 5000 troops to Afghanistan because HE and his great buddy George had
underestimated what it would take to smother resistance there -if at all
possible - even with greater resources. ]
To
continue:
By next year barely half of
the Navy’s ships will be able to meet their readiness targets.
[Well!
-As we know - Tony Blair has only his European obsession in mind and not the
necessity to keep our fleet in good order to assist our kith and kin in the ‘Old’
Commonwealth and others with whom we would protect with our lives.]
To
continue:
Ministers
have slashed hundreds of millions from maintenance budgets; meaning that
defects or worn-out systems aboard some ships are only repaired if they
threaten the crew’s health and safety.
Faults
in weapon systems are being ignored and senior commanders believe the funding cuts are
the most serious threat to British sea power, according to the study by the National
Audit Office.
It
is feared the fleet’s long-term fighting ability will ‘degrade’.
Projections show how its ships will increasingly be unable to put to sea within
their readiness targets.
[With
the world’s navies looking on the sparse show of force at the recent Celebration of the Battle of Trafalgar there is no doubt that some visiting admirals will
bear this in mind should they wish to twist the tail of the British Sea Lion-
when he will least expect it.
What
a way for a country with such a history on the oceans to appear so toothless in
the dangerous years of the early 21st century.
The attitude of the First Sea Lord
or should
we now say ‘the First P-C Sea Lord because his so-called fleet is unlikely
to reach the international waters who was so taken up with his ‘don’t upset
the French’ must now wish he had said don’t upset anyone because there is little we
can do about it.]
To
continue:
The targets require warships to be able to sail with a
designated notice period, varying from a few days to many months for those
being refitted. As recently as 2002,
more than 90 per cent of ships were meeting their targets, the NAO report
shows.
But the figure has fallen to
barely 60 per cent, with a worst-case projection putting it
around 50 per cent by next year.
Almost 40 per cent of all armed forces suffer from ‘serious
or critical weaknesses’ in their readiness, while two per cent have ‘critical’
weaknesses.
The forces are still reeling
from the most dramatic defence cuts in a generation, which were announced by
the Government last year.
The Navy’s fleet of frigates and destroyers was cut
from 31 to 25 and some long-standing commitments overseas had to be axed.
The NAO report details the dramatic effect of the
cash crisis-which has seen £310million slashed from warship maintenance.
One example is the system of ‘reduced support periods’ for
warships, under which vessels now take it in turns to have repairs in order to
keep a ‘core capability’ ready for operations, while ‘non essential activity’
is being abandoned.
A spokesman said:
‘Faults affecting health and safety are repaired-such a
s a faulty hatch- but if the sonar system goes wrong, for example, and the
ship isn’t earmarked for operations immediately then it will be probably left’
[Well if the Argentineans see what a sorry plight our fleet is in they may
decide this is the time to strike the Falklands? What
is so farcical of the powers that be that they believe an enemy will give us
the time to bring our ships up to battle worthy conditions before action.
There is also the mistaken reasoning that defects in a
ships fighting efficiency is not a matter of HEALTH & SAFETY.
How Sir Alan West was persuaded to agree to this
nonsense or did not threaten resignation because of the increased threat to the
lives of his seaman after his own experiences at sea in the Falklands would
have made clear we must wonder if his promotion to such an important
position with the lives of his seaman and our nation also in his hands should
be so laid back at the interference of the politically-correct lobby at the
ministry -that he was justified in accepting his appointment?
Though no doubt a brave seaman he appears not to be fully in
the Nelson mould - who always considered the welfare and fighting efficiency of
his seaman and vessels as of paramount importance and his determination to
obtain further ships of the line in his battle against the French and Spanish
and others in his brilliant career and to the end of his life he deplored the lack of extra frigates.]
To continue:
The RAF has also been hit by the diversion of funds
to the Army, with flying training for fast-jet crews being cut from 17.5 to 16.5
hours a month for the next year.
While the MoD claims the risks involved are ‘acceptable’ the
NAO warns that the policy could threaten the crews fighting prowess and lead to
‘a dilution in skills and experience’.
The NAO criticises the growing practice of ‘cannibalisation’-
swopping personnel and parts around to try to plug holes in frontline
capability-warning this is inefficient and can store up long-term problems.
Tory defence spokesman Michael Ancram warned:
The Royal Navy fleet is
being degraded in order that the Government can patch up its failures
elsewhere.’

We
hear that many old-sweats from the navy sang Rule Britannia under the bow of
the French aircraft carrier Charles le Gaulle and we hope the message has found
its way to the Admiralty and the Government because the French and others must
have found great satisfaction in finding our once grand fleet the sort that any
third world country might be able to match.
It
appears that the Admiralty have thought of everything by having one of its
seaman install a pagan altar in one of his ships (pagus- pre-Christian name for villager - later to be heathen).
No
doubt there is a coven of witches with the same facilities and we look with
interest whether this new addition to life at sea may be of help in emergencies
should Sir Alan West ever find himself in dire trouble because vital repairs
were not carried out on his vessel or any other in the fleet which he visited -
because parts
were already allocated elsewhere under so-called Health & Safety priorities.
We await with much interest this latest addition to inclusive
navy life.
*
We now hear that there are
thousands of complaints of sexual harassment by personnel, which was forecast
prior to the introduction of mixed sex crews
in the Royal Navy.
The answer maybe would be for a Petticoat Navy or
whatever - where there would be only personnel of one sex. Maybe Pagans and all other inclusive persons
could be given the opportunity to ‘ peddle their own canoes’.
When one hears of the above problems that the PC brigade
have thrust onto the Armed Forces it is a wonder there is any time left within
the limited Forces training programme to forge them into a fighting units?
If it was possible to put a
cost in time and money for the countless cross-sex escapades since the
all-inclusive rule was made it would no doubt be sufficient to furnish a great
number of frigates for the ailing Royal Navy and extra battalions for our hard
pressed infantry. Not forgetting the difficulties now experienced in the RAF.
IF THIS IS PROGRESS THEN
HEAVEN HELP US OR ANY OTHER OFFERING FROM OUR INCLUSIVE
ROYAL NAVY-ARMY AND AIR
FORCE
