COUNCIL TAX WILL SOAR IF BRITAIN LOSES SAFETY RULING

Council tax may have to go up to pay for new HEALTH and SAFETY -rules demanded by BRUSSELS [THAT is where 80% of our LAWS now come FROM] -town halls were told yesterday. They warned of 'huge costs' if EU BUREAUCRATS get their way in a European Court Case brought by the [unelected and 600 votes an fiasco called the ] EUROPEAN COMMISSION in BRUSSELS -which says British Law is letting employers off too lightly. The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg will today reveal whether it backs BRUSSELS. The case centres on the British Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974, which says employers must ensure the welfare of workers ' so far as is reasonably practical'. Brussels says this allows bosses to evade their responsibilities. Lord Bruce-Lockhart, chairman of the Local Government Association, said: 'We must end the cotton-wool culture that tries to eliminate risk from everything but can impose huge costs. 'Councils risk being smothered by over-zealous and draconian HEALTH and SAFETY REGULATIONS.
