Senior Conservative Euro-Federalists from 1998 are still
with us in 2005.
In
the Freedom Today journal of the Freedom Association in February 1998
under the Chairmanship of the late Norris McWhirter CBE an article by a
member of the Freedom Association’s management committee Professor
Anthony Flew in response to a letter sent to the Independent
by the Conservative Euro-Federalists.
Much of the content of the article has appeared in a
number of the essays shown on our Bulletin Board nevertheless it is appropriate
to have a further review of the points raised to show that the so-called
Conservative Party has not moved in its admiration of the EU and with a General
Election only a few month’s away in May 2005 a reminder to beware of false
promises and gifts.

On 5 January 1998, just as the working New Year was beginning, Lord Howe
of Aberavon, Edward Heath. Michael Heseltine, Kenneth Clarke and eight other
senior Conservative Euro-federalists published a letter in The
Independent. This letter declared their support for what they commended
as the Prime Minister’s positive approach to Euro-negotiations, expressed their
enthusiastic support for joining the common Euro-currency and promised that they would all be
active campaigners for a ‘Yes’ vote in the eventual referendum.
Misguided policy
That
policy as stated by the leader was to say ‘No’ only to joining the common
Euro-currency during the present Parliament or the next, leaving open the
possibility of our joining after that.
But this temporising policy was, we must hope, adopted only to retain
the support of the signers of that letter and their like.
In
that misguided aim it has failed (1998) quite dramatically. So William Hague should now feel free to
abandon his appeasement of the unappeasable.
Instead he ought categorically, absolutely and permanently to reject the
very idea of the UK abandoning its own currency. He should on this supreme
issue complement Lady Thatcher’s ‘No!’ No!
No! ‘With his ‘Never! Never! Never!’
For the project for the common Euro-currency is not, and
should not be judged as being, a purely or even mainly economic project. Instead, as everyone who wants to know
already knows, it is, and by its continental sponsors and controllers is advocated
as being, the major, the irreversible step which will make inevitable the
establishment of a single common government for the emerging United States of
Europe

has not joined the Single Currency because of the opposition of the People -and
a previous President of the EU has stated that we were right to keep out - ‘UP

To take this step [join the single currency] is,
therefore, simultaneously to abandon [our] home rule and national independence
Anxious pretence
The
reason why most Euro-federalists in the UK both deny that that is what they
are, and pretend that joining or not joining the common Euro-currency is simply
and solely a matter of the balance of economic advantage and disadvantage, is
that they are not confident that they could persuade even the younger British
generation to take the step of joining if their eyes were opened to what and
all that this step would involve. And
the Euro-federalists apparently suffer this anxiety despite all the efforts of trendy teachers to ensure
that their pupils lack any of the knowledge of British history which might have
the effect of effacing their proper, politically-correct shame for being born
British.
There are relevant quotations from two great Prime
Ministers of earlier centuries. The
first comes from a speech made by a Tory.

William
Pitt the younger, on 31st May 1781.
In
it he said, of and to members of the House of Commons, that they:
“…hold
the strings of the national purse, and are entrusted with the great important
power, first of granting the money and then of correcting the expenditure. To delegate this right, then, is a violation
of what gives them their consequence in the legislature, and what, above all
other privileges, they cannot surrender or delegate without a violent breach of
the constitution.
The
second quotation comes from a speech made at Hastings on 17th May
1891 by William Ewart Gladstone.
(He
was, of course, a classical Liberal, rather than a modern Liberal or Social
Democrat.)
He
said then:
“
The finance of the country is ultimately associated with the liberties of the
country. It is a powerful leverage by which English liberty has been gradually
acquired…If the House of Commons by any possibility lose the power of control
of the grants of public money, depend upon it, your very liberty will be worth
very little in comparison. That powerful leverage has been known as the power
of the purse-the control of the House of Commons over [ALL] expenditure.”
Appalling prospect
Even those who may believe that our liberties are
adequately safeguarded by the incorporation of the European Declaration of
Human Rights into UK law, and who are unworried by the constitutional
impropriety of the successive delegations consequent upon the Treaties of:

[NEW EU CONSTITUTION
-LISBON-2008]
ought
to be appalled by the prospect of surrendering all the powers and privileges of
our national Parliament in which British MEPs of all parties will always be a
relatively tiny majority.
[Fortunately
in 2005 we have a Referendum to decide whether our nation will still be a
self-governing nation in the 21st Century though if the unexpected
happened because of the unwillingness of many to see the dangers- the battle
would continue into Civil War-there would be no alternative left to those who
cherish their country's and their own Independence under the historic Common
Law of England]
For
our EU ‘partners’ already gain substantially from their exploitation of our
fishing grounds [Which Edward Heath decided to give away without a thought
in the negotiations of entry into the supposed European Common Market in
1972.]
.
From
our membership of their Common Agricultural Policy, and from our net
contribution to EU funds (our tribute quota).
And our own Europhiles (people whom members of my generation are
inclined to regard and abhor as collaborators with a foreign, occupying power)
have still made no attempt to meet Norman Lamont’s challenge (written in
1996) to specify a single substantial compensatory economic benefit from
our EU membership.
[In
2005 though the Government has been asked the same question in the House of
Lords by Lord Pearson and 50 other members of that House -details on our
Bulletin Board -an answer is still unforthcoming. We wonder why?]
Coalition of collaborators
So
how else can we explain the eagerness of those ’partners’ to involve the UK in
their common Euro-currency, and consequently to subordinate the UK to the
common Euro-government, except as due to their desire further to exploit what
they must very reasonably see as a nation of suckers ruled by a de facto
coalition of collaborators?

Should the Monarch fail to protect our

that the Queen's Speech will cover the
catastrophic fall in Values and Moral
behaviour since the beginning of her 56
-year reign. This has been brought about by
the actions of HER MINISTERS and the greater
number of those in HER PARLIAMENT who have
placed THEIR CONCERNS before the INTERESTS
of THE PEOPLE and NATION STATE.
As for
the fact that HER PEOPLE feel LOST that has
been the direct result of the actions of HER
SUCCESSIVE GOVERNMENTS and the TRAITOROUS
POLITICIANS including PRIME MINISTERS who
have stealthily over the 56 years of HER
MAJESTY'S REIGN have almost achieved their
aim of ENSLAVING the PEOPLE to a FOREIGN
POWER.
The reason
for the marked drop in the number viewing
THE QUEEN'S SPEECH is no doubt because the
mass of people have realised years ago that
the MONARCH is powerless to PROTECT their
WAY-OF-LIFE and events up to now have PROVED
